I don't have the HK sound system in my 02 M3, and I don't really care for the stereo in the car. I would appreciate any thoughts on aftermarket stereo solutions. How hard would an install be? Any speaker / amplifier recommendations for the bimmer?

working on a solution for that... seeing as how the passenger door speaker has blown on me 5 times now, I think it may be time for me to look into a replacement.

I have made a bunch of threads in the car audio/electronics forum about it ... try doing a search for my username in that forum and checking the results.

Kevlar you need to stop directing all the sound to the passenger door speakers so it would drown out the screams by them as you nail those apex? :D

Kev, I have that same problem with the door woofer. I brought the car in to have the speaker replaced, and when I got it back it still sounded bad. It turns out they replaced the mid/tweeter module instead.

Good thing they're not surgeons.

it isn't hard to replace the factory system, even by yourself.

i had replace the stock system w/ a Panasonic DVD/MP3 dash player (the 1 of 2 on market that can turn sideway! u know how bmw's dash board it....) , Preium series MBQuart componet system in the front (leave rear stock since it's mainly just for "fill"), a 12" JL sub in a removeable console (so i can take it out on the track), and a single Apline V12 5 channel amp to power everything in a custom amp console mounted on the floor in the trunk right behind so i can still use/fold down the rear seat if needed (driver's side).

my whole system's key is don't wanna add lots of weight and keep everything minium/essential only.

MB Quart components or Focal Utopias. I've seen (and heard) both in an M3. The Focals are much more balanced, best sound I've heard...but the Quarts are nice (and slightly less $$$).

The factory speakers suck! Especially the front ones that vibrate and blow like mad. All of them have been replaced in my car with the addition of a subwoofer, amp and an Alpine MP3 headunit.

My install isn't show car style but it will blow your head off with low end bass.
