People...

I have read thru quite a few threads that are similar but not exactly what I am experiencing on our 2000 540I. Our climate control functions seem to work correctly EXCEPT that the fan or blower cannot be adjusted. Turning the fan on the air blows at the highest level and cannot be adjusted lower. I have tried all combinations of recirclulation, Auto, upper, lower etc. buttons to no response. Either the fan is off or on full. The a/c works - i.e. blows cold air. Adjusting the digital temperature setting does nothing to control the fan speed.

Have any of you had a similar experience?

It could be your final stage unit. Check the link below:

Thanks. I'll post tomorrow whether or not this is the culprit. Going to the dealer in the morning. Just don't want to get screwed with them telling me it was a flux capacitor at fault and the bill needs to be $1,500.

The previous owner of my e36 had a similar problem. The paperwork says that the dealer replaced the "blower resistor" under warranty

Yep...it was the Final Control Module. $82 dollars at one dealership. $94 at another. $157.99 for labor if you want to get screwed!
It is pretty easy to install.
