Hey everybody,

I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but if needed, please move it.

I'm about to get a car here in SoCal, but the car came from AZ.
We weren't to hasty in getting the car so we went and thought about it.
Doing a bit of research, we found out that this car has 8 unpaid tickets totalling up to about $800.
What's going to happen if I go ahead and buy this car, is everything going to be on me, even though all the fines came from AZ?

My gut feeling is telling me to walk away although I like the car, but I want to see what you guys think.
Sorry if this is such a stupid question, first time buyer from a private seller.

The responsibility will be yours. I'm not sure if Arizona sends that kinda info to California, though.

Randy;

It's a tough call. While the tickets may not be your responsibility right away, these kind of things always seem to catch up with you further down the road... Even though you aren't the one responsible for them, what happens if next year when you re-register the car and the tickets become your liability? You would have no recourse..

I'm no expert, but it does give serious pause to consideration on this car...

Oh, BTW, Happy Birthday!

make the seller pay the tickets or give you a nice discount

Seriously! Have him lower the price by a grand. those tickets are in the DMV's database and they may not let you register the car if they arent paid

It depends though. Those things might not be in the CA DMV database since the car is an AZ car. I wouldn't be surprised if the two agencies were connected though.

I had a speeding ticket in AZ a while back and when was asked when applying for my current job (this was within 6 months of each other) if I had one but didn't show up in my record. I just also acquired a Touring last January from Phoenix and was inoperable for about 9 months before I bought it and nothing came up when I registered it here in CA. Haggle a litttle bit and take a chance.

Yeah, my dad and I called the deal off. We didn't want to go through the trouble of paying for somebody else's mistakes if it did catch up to us.
