Brake light has come on - most likely rear pads/rotors ('97 328is). Shops tend to charge 2X what you can get the parts for off any of a number of sites on the internet. A few questions:

1. Recommendations for best brand of OEM part (Teves?) - looking for value, not necessarily performance. Any to absolutely avoid?

2. More importantly - does anyone know a shop in the Atlanta area that will allow you to bring in your own parts and then do the work for their standard labor rate? Or is that just heresy?

3. How often should one expect to change discs as compared to frequency of pad replacement?

Thanks for any input.

I do this type of work on these cars. Pretty well known in this area, can provide recommendations. I am just fine with you bringing your own parts, as long as you make sure you have EVERYTHING you will need to complete the job( been through that a few times, tired of it). My rates are very reasonable.

I personally like the Jurid pads out of the OE stuff.

You should only really need to replace the discs once every 100k miles if you are using stock type pads, and are not beating them to death.

Discs will never last 100K. If your lucky you may get two sets of pads out of them, no where near 100K.

depends on how it is driven. If he is tracking, autoxing the car, then no, they wont't last 100k. However, if he is just driving the car on the street like a normal person, then they could in fact last up to 100 miles.
When I removed the original set from my car at 60k, they had PLENTY of life left in them. The only reason they were removed was to upgrade for heavy track sessions.
