View Full Version : Rear bushings
Toy72 04-13-2009, 12:40 PM Just got the parts in from Charlie Spear, gonna attack the rear maybe this weekend. I changed out the front suspension components almost a year ago now. How different is the rear? Is there any tricks or certain items to look out for? Does anyone know of, have a write up possibly? JUst changing out the bushings, joints. TIA!:)
1chiban 04-13-2009, 12:52 PM IMO the rear is easier than the front. Did you do the front by yourself?
Toy72 04-13-2009, 12:54 PM Yessir. Replaced both tie rods, upper/ lower control arms and sway bar. Only took me 7hrs :).
1chiban 04-13-2009, 01:20 PM not bad at all! Rear should be a cakewalk for you Sir :).
Ahmed303 04-13-2009, 01:28 PM For me, the rear was much harder than the front depending on what was being done.
YMMV.
8eights 04-13-2009, 02:31 PM If you have access to a press and the rear of your car has lowered springs, The rear is pretty easy, I used some Hollow steel cut outs to press and push in the new bushings, Not a complicated job imo, Once you change the rear bushings, You will have a very quiet and tighter running car, The cars stance will be noticebly different as well, I would recommend a wheel alignment afterwards.
1chiban 04-13-2009, 02:33 PM absolutely on the alignment!
Bryson 04-13-2009, 05:57 PM how many/which bushings and/or bearings, balljoints are you doing in the rear?
the rear is on my list of things to do, two bushings are toasted, but preventatively I'd like to replace what I can while I'm underneath
the ones that are bad in my car are 33 32 1 135 131. Are you doing thrust arm bushings as well?
my tentative list:
33 32 1 135 131 $60 each (2 inner 2 outer, outer ruined)
33 32 1 137 819 $78 each (2)
33 32 1 090 452 $121 ea. (2) (thrust arm bushings, rear)

Yes, I'm knocking them all out. Why half step, you know? I have access to a lift, so later on today I'm gonna lift her up and get a better lay of the land, if you will. Definately looking forward to a "quieter" rear end :).
cantbl8 04-14-2009, 01:26 PM If it's going to be on the lift for a white, recommend loosening the thrust arm bushings before you lift. Tighten again when front end down. Unless it is a drive-on lift.
Koizumi 04-14-2009, 02:09 PM Does anybody have a comprehensive list with parts #'s of all the replaceable rear bushings?
PS. Good luck Toy72, too bad you're far away otherwise I'd bring over the cold beer & help you.
motorisym850 04-14-2009, 02:42 PM I just placed a big order to Wuffer and one them are the front and rear poly bushings as well as the thrust arm bushings made by Pheonix Motorsport. They are a great upgrade from the stock set up. If they arrive in time, I plan to install them this weekend. Thanks Tom!
Peace!
8eights 04-14-2009, 03:02 PM M5 bushings up front our amazing, Let us know how you like the others, A month after you install them. Tia

are you doing subframe bushings as well? Any of the [many] bushings that I didn't put on the list?

You are with me, Brother. In Spirit :).

Careful - too much beer is no help at all. ;-)
Toy72 04-18-2009, 08:49 AM In the middle now, taking pics. Can't wait to see how she feels :devillook.
Toy72 05-04-2009, 10:54 AM Sorry for the major gap, been real busy and without a home computer. The rear thrust arm bushings were surprisingly easy to do. The only snag I ran into was when I dropped one of the front bolts and couldn't find it. F#$!ing gremlins. I had a bit of a time issue, so I was only able to change out the thrust arm bushings, but she feels way better (to me) and doesn't sound like my knees when she rolls around, so I am quite happy. When I get the chance, I will post the pics I took, you gotta see the passenger side bushing, that thing was almost OFF!
1chiban 05-04-2009, 02:16 PM I knew you'd have an easy time with it :). I'm glad to hear things went well! Can't wait for pics.
Cheers mate.
Bryson 05-04-2009, 03:08 PM I'd love to see a few pictures to compare the condition of yours to mine. Those thrust arm bushings are unusually expensive!
tdotbimmer 05-09-2009, 07:25 AM My list things to do increases the more I read these posts. Now I am listening for every minute sound.
