I'm trying to hunt down some 17's (any leads would be appreciated BTW), but any weight and specified size would help.

They're cast, right?

Thanks.

forged, not cast.
What are you trying to fit them on? There are many different offsets - it will depend on the car.

As a start, a 9.5 X 18 front MK1 wheel weighs 29lbs., and as Steffen said forged and they are extremely strong. I just got word from the wheel shop today that they're nearly done with the 11" rears, and you wouldn't believe how bad one wheel was to still be brought back.

Would be interesting to see pics - educational for all.

These would be going on an E34, in 17x8/8.5 (or a bit bigger). 29# for a forged wheel? Ouch... sounds like downsizing it a bit for the intended fitment would still be well over my 20#/wheel limit.

We E31ers are over 2 tons anyway.... what's a few more pounds in wheels...:stickoutt

Cantbl8, here are the before pix of the wheel I spoke of. They now have the front straightened and trued, and are welding the rear portion of the barrel from a donor wheel. Powdercoat and lip polish happens next week.

Impressive, but unsprung weight is unsprung weight.

These will need hubcentric rings. They are for a e39 (74.1 hub). You will need the 72.6 hub. Hope this helps. A tough order to fill. Good luck.

Cheers, Carter

Looking for 17's, but thanks.

Why not go with E34 M5 wheels? Much closer to what you seek and a similar style. I know where an 8.5 set of MK1s in E34 fitment are (still 18 tho), but even a much rarer set of 17s aren't going to meet your weight requirement.

I am pretty sure they are roll cast (better than pressed cast, but still not forged). Check the size markings on the wheels...if the are raised, it is a cast wheel; if they are stamped in (engraved), they are forged.

JFR, my Schnitzer wheels are cast, while my CSi TS wheels are forged.

If that's true then I stand corrected, but their 2pc. MK2s are described as forged, and monobloc is simply a euro description of a 1pc. wheel... so a natural assumption. Whichever, I can certainly attest to the strength of these wheels.

I agree, they are very strong wheels. IMHO, the best 18in wheels for the E31. (unfortunately, I use 17 and 19in wheels :stickoutt)

I also agree with Randy, the only strong 17in wheel under 20lbs would be CSi 17 TS wheels...and only in 8in wide (9in are 21lb).

Make sure to get E31 offset +10!!

What about the RD RGRs (like those used on the K55)?

As far as unsprung weight, I haven't heard much ado about tire mass.

Thanks for posting those pictures Randy. Hate to think what they will hit you for fixing that. But if it completes an 18" staggered MK1 set it's worth it.

No need for the E31 offset, the original poster is trying to mount on an E34

tire mass is rather constant with quality rubber unless you go runflat.

Missed that, but the weight info remains...

Because deep lips make me drool. Tstars with covers aren't my thing, esthetically. Sans covers, they're good for a stripped-down raw no-frills look, but the E34T these would be for is far too heavy to pretend to be a track car. If they were a bit cheaper I'd run them for the specs alone, but they're a bit much at this time.

Hm, a few websites list them as available, in theory, in 17". Has anyone ever actually seen them in that size?

Does anyone know where they can actually acquire a set?

There is a fellow selling a E36 offset on in the for sale subforum. E31 spec are very rare.
