It comes and go's, meaning it works sometimes and sometimes not. If reverse stops working I can let it sit for a few hours and it starts working again. I did a little research a found a know problem regarding this called a "F clutch cylinder failure" as someone had mentioned in my previous post.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so how much did it cost to get repaired? Is it better to have a transmission shop do this or a BMW service place? My car is a 92 850i with 103k miles, would it be better to have the whole trans rebuilt or just this problem fixed. I expect that would really depend on what is in the bottom of the pan I guess.......
I know theres some Texas people here- any recommendtions for a shop in central Texas?
Thanks-

The shop I use in Austin is Black Forrest on Beull. Talk to Lee he is the owner. I do a lot of my own wrench turning and he is great to deal with because he understands what I am going to tackle on my own. Often I leave there with a list of what he fixed and a list of what he saw that I need to fix.

Thanks , I will give him a call..... I perfer to do my own wrenching as well, but I have never done much with BMW's. Although I have a shop full of tools I doubt I would want to do anything inside the trans. More than likely I might just buy another trans and just R&R myself.
I live in Pflugerville.....:cool

Kurt Koeller is the ZF Transmission Guru. Last time I checked, he rebuilt a transmission for about $1500 shipped. Archives has the contact info.

Damn that's a great price. Wish I knew about Kurt when my #2 E32 trans blew out.

Is swapping the trans in the 850 kinda like any other auto trans swap? Meaning that I have done tranny swaps in all my vette, supra, every hotrod I have ever owned is it pretty much the same? Any special tools that I might need outside of the normal shop stuff?
If its a normal swap I thinking Im going to get a used trans and swap it out and send my orginal trans to Kurt Koeller for a complete rebuild. Then swap it out again when it gets done or the used trans goes out. I was told it could take 4 to 6 weeks to get it shipped and rebuildt and shipped back. Thats too long to be with out driving my baby.......
Also- Im also assuming that I will need to change the front pump seal on the used trans, where can I get one? And what type of trans fluid do I use.
Thanks----

I was told that the rebuild by Kurt was a 2-day turn around. The time factor is really the shipping to and from. The seals can be ordered from GAULT - they are easy to replace.
