View Full Version : Front Plate Question/Idea
NHmfree 03-31-2009, 12:11 PM I'm from NH but spend a lot of time in MA because that's where most of my friends/girlfriend and family live. I was thinking that if I spend the day/weekend in MA that it may be worth it take my front plate off because it just looks so hideous. I don't think that I could be ticketed in MA for not having a front NH plate even though both states require 2 plates, but I'm not sure.
Just a thought that I figured I'd run by you all. Can MA police enforce this law for out of state drivers if two plates are required in the state the car is registered in?
Thanks,
Derek

State law = NO
Fed law = Yes
so no mass can not ticket you for not having a front plate, just like NH can not ticket a mass car for not having a mass sticker.
it can however be used to pull u over and give the cops a chance to find something to ticket you for.

You make a good point.

federal law has nothing to do with plates. DC/MD/VA regularly enforce one another's plate laws. I have been ticketed in MA for not having an MD plate on front.

You must have come across a real asshole. That's pretty outrageous. I keep my mass plate off in NH when im at school. :dunno
I'm gonna do the swift motorsport hideaway bracket if i keep the car anyway.

Wow man that sucks...I thought it was state law.
Just saw you reply in my other thread about the diff. Thanks for the info!

Agreed, in the 4+ years I drove around and lived in MA with my CT registered car I never had that problem. I was never even pulled over for not having front plates.

yea ive never had an issue and I get stopped alot. A friend of mine once got a $500 ticket for having NH plates and living in Boston on his GLI. It was for tax evasion because he had a MA license at the time (his parents on a vacation home in NH). Sometimes the cops just do retarded shit.
M-technik-3 03-31-2009, 09:29 PM When I had two plates on my ex VW Passat we used to zip tie it under the bumper. It was hard to see as it followed the valance. I was never ticketed for it that way.

YES. Last stinking one I got was Modified exhaust, which was BS. Exhaust was 50 state compliant, fought it and won.
greenleaf 04-01-2009, 01:14 AM car's registered in CT, live and drive in RI, never had an issue
Kevin E21 04-01-2009, 03:23 AM I've had a cop pull me over for my front plate. The thing is, I have a front plate. :shifty He was like "Oh, your front plate is zip tied on, but I can see that there is no where else to put it, so I'll let it slide."
Fastx525ixGuy 04-03-2009, 01:25 AM Never been stopped in MA for no plate in the 3 years of my driving career. I live in MA as well...
shadowstep 04-03-2009, 08:10 AM wow... I never had a front license plate on prior to moving to worcester and when I moved here I got pulled over for a total of 4 times for not having it on the front windshield and my car was registered in CT at the time
KapeKawdM 04-03-2009, 09:47 AM Some front plate mounting options other than oem.

you're 19 and drive an e60? good on you man. at that age i was driving the 94 camaro that i worked two jobs to buy. wish i had that kind of financial help from the fam. (i'm just jealous, nice car kid :stickoutt)
back on topic...i haven't ever run a front plate on my car. Was pulled for an expired inspection sticker last fall (it was out of date by only 2 weeks), the cop mentioned that i wasn't running a plate but i just told him that my car doesn't have a bracket but i had ordered it from the dealership and was waiting for it to come in. i showed him that i keep the front plate in the glovebox as proof that i have it. I offered to keep it on the dash and he said that was okay and just wrote a warning - not even a ticket - for the sticker.
