Looks like some guys want to do another DIY, so what can we work on this time?

More brakes (pads, fluid change, rotors, Brembos)
Radiator flush
What about the dent removal guy
Suspension
Stereo

Definitely dent removal and I'm game for whatever else too, especially the coolant system flush since I am due.

I'm up for whatever. You might see the 325 or the M3 though, not the Coupe. Mike (dent removal) has agreed to do the tech sessions, but I will have to check with him on the DIY session. Most likely we will need at least 3 guys and he prefers to work in the evening.

I could be up for dent removal, depending on day & time...

My son is interested in the dent removal also, but he needs to do this sooner rather than later as he is planning on getting his car painted, maybe as early as next month...

Looks like we have the interest, but what about the date and place?

Sorry guys, I've been out of it for awhile and still trying to catch up here. As for a place, Nancy said we could use Edsung's parking lot. I guess I could get an electric cord to run outside of the whse so we would have some power if need be. Can't do any coolant changes there, but dent removal should be alright.

Good to have you back Thrills...

Well, my rear brake pad is clanking around so it looks like I will be disassembling brakes again. I don't think Mike is going to be interested in doing another dent session if it out in the sun. Also we will need to limit it to 2 or 3 guys otherwise we will be there all day.

Anyway, someone set a day/time and I will see if Mike will show up.

Good excuse to use your new aluminum jack...lol
Did your brakes start to get noisier after the A 500? My brakes actually got quieter after the A 500. Strange these brake pads..?

Yeah, my brake pads got noisier after the A500. They squeal like a City Bus right now, but I am not sure I am willing to rip it all out for a fourth time to correct it. My rear pad is rattling around though so I do need to fix that. I hope one the clips did not break off the pad. I hear that happens sometimes, causing the clanking. :(

SO someone set a date already! Thrills? You guys can come to my house, but I doubt I can accomodate a large group, maybe 3-4 max..

IsandS52 how about at your place this Sunday or Saturday 8/24, 8/23?
Owen said I need to remove my RD sways and put back my stock sways. I only hope it will fit in my trunk...I know, what trunk!
What would be a good time?

Hey guys,

Had a good time at DIY#2. We can have it at my house next time if you want, you guys just need to drive out my way.

Thrills...you and ZZZing were right on about the butt-strut! This thing is amazing. Remember that high speed vibration I mentioned to you? Well its gone. The car doesn't wander on the highway either, and bumps in the road are absorbed with a sharp "thwop" sound, instead of the usual creaks. Seems to add a little road noise, but its not too bad. I wanted to take the car up roundtop drive on Sunday but I didn't get the chance. Anyway I am ordering one for myself this week.

Thrills, if you want the new one, I have no problem with that, otherwise if you want your old one back (sentimental value...I know it was a "gift" :) )we can meet up one weekend and swap.

Could you feel the difference with your sway bar swap?

anyway, thanks man! You guys cost me $350! :help

Andy, did you solve your clutch problems with the bleeding?

IslandS52 -
Now aren't you glad you didn't stay home because you felt too lazy? :mechstuck
I can't test my car out until I replace my shock mounts. I ordered them this morning from gC, so they should be here by Wed. I plan on installing them on Fri or Sat. ZZZing is also thinking of doing the same for maintenance purposes. Your place at 8:00 on Saturday?..:shake:
Thanks for the heads up on the broken RSM. It didn't even occur to me they needed to be replaced.
So, you now like to strut your butt huh? I'm glad you like it.
What color powder coat did you order? If it was Galaxy then I'll take the one from the box. If not, I'd like to get back mine....matches my front strut...I know no one's going to see it, but I'll know.

You guys are welcome over here, but are we sure we know what we are doing? I am pretty sure the shock and spring will come out as a single unit, but we should still research how to do it. We can take off the BS and transfer it back to your car too. I ordered a new one from Paul yesterday, and it is going to be something special! He has sworn me to secrecy about it (literally) but it is something new! Won't be ready for another few days though, so it probably won't be here until the week after. I got it in Galaxy. No black unfortunately.

From what I got from some people from the forum, it seems pretty straight forward. I asked Frank at gC if it came with instructions, he said yes. Could you call Dean and ask him? Or
e-mail me his ph# and I'll call.

Something special huh? Clandestine operation with Paul....hmmm!
I'll take the one in the box!
Are you working on Friday?

The instructions that come with the GC RSM are terrible. It is an awful hand drawn diagram. I talked to Dean and he said that it is "duck soup" on an E30, so it should be aboutt he same on the Z3, but there is a progression that needs to be followed. If he is available he will help us do it (but he is complaining that you like to work too early :) ) He works for the state y'know :D

Anyway, I do work on Friday, but I have Monday off. If you really want to try and do it this weekend, that is fine. You can swing by Dean's place and car pool. Or we can do it out there.

Check your PMs for Dean's contact info.

It seems as though all of GC's install instructions are like that...

We did GC C/Os on my son's E30M3 two months or so ago and the instructions were practically useless...

I have a set of GC swaybar bracket reinforcing plates that need to be welded in place and I can't make heads or tails of the instructions (did a search on bf.c and there's like three different interpretations)...

I got my RSM and you guys are wrong!
I think the instructions can't be that bad, IF YOU GET ANY!

I got my parts and some rubbish for stuffing, and that's it. I was told there would be some instructions, but I guess that is only for the continental United States....
I did some searching and talked with a co-worker that's a mechanic, and it does seem rather easy.
I'm still going to contact Dean and ask him if he'd like to come over and give advice.
IslandS52 if you don't mind the drive, I'd like to do it here. I think that would be better, so I don't have to drive my cripple car.
ZZZING and I was thinking of doing it Friday, but if Dean doesn't mind helping, and you don't mind the drive, I'll have it on Saturday. ZZZING will be doing his also...
And guess what my lovely wife bought for me today?
Hint...it's all aluminum!

The Beastmaster
08-28-2003, 02:35 AM
Did she buy you a case of beer? Hmmm, maybe it's a jack since you haven't asked us to bring one over.

And why is it you guys are off on Friday?

thrlls
08-28-2003, 12:05 PM
Okay here is the run down.
We're going to do it on Friday, since ZZZING has to do something on Sat. and I need to finish my dry wall project in my daughter's bathroom. We will be starting at 8:30...
IslandS52 - Let me know when your B/S comes in, then I'll come to your place and we can do the install/swap.

According to many who know me, my "BS" is ALWAYS HERE!:laugh

I am wrapping things up here at the office for the week...maybe I can play hooky tommorrow:D. I probably still have the GC RSM instructions in my file at home, but as a few have said, they are pretty useless. There are two "settings" though, a race and street setting (basically depends on the orientation of a large crescent shape washer). You will want to use the "race" setting to maximize reinforcement.

If I don't see you guys...Good Luck!!

So did you get a new jack too?! I am getting something this week too and it will be all aluminum also!

thrlls
08-29-2003, 01:57 AM
Well I hope you can make it. It will be later, 8:30. If you do come by, don't forget your instructions.

You are correct, your BS is always here, but so is Beastmaster's!

My aluminum thingy is a Z8!

My stock RSM had no signs of damage, but it is still good to know that they have been changed out.

Next, my pedals.

So did your rear "clunking" sound disappear?

Glad to hear that you managed to get it all apart and all together again. Sorry I couldn't make it, but I had forgotten that I had a meeting at 9am so I couldn't cut work :(

Did you figure out the race and street configurations? Also the instructions call for torquing the nut at the top of the shock shaft to only 10 lbs/ft. Just making sure that you knew this, as I would have definitely over-torqued the nuts if I didn't have the instructions.

thrlls
08-30-2003, 03:55 PM
Opps!
I think we over torqued!
Great now, I'll have to loosen.
