Hi,
After becoming bored with the 8-track player (well cassette but it was a bit poor by today's standards) originally fitted in my M3 I decided to replace it with a CD player. I wired it all up using a harness adapter but the CD player comes on but no sound comes out of the speakers. The only wire I could not connect to the harness was a blue one with a plastic sleeve on it which I believe is a form of speed sensitive volume control (according to the chap at the car audio store, so he could be wrong!)- is this my problem or are there amps between the headunit and the speakers as per my E36 and I've blown them or a fuse?
Any help appreciated as I'm off to Sweden in it next week and need some bangin' choons ;-)
And I know the engine note is lovely but I just bought the Darkness album and love it so I need some ICE!!

could it be that you need to connect your remote turn on wire?
I thought the little blue wire was the trigger wire? I don't know anything about the stereo system though...

if the trigger wire was disconnected the deck wouldn't turn on @ all bryan...
if you bought an install kit matched all the wires up and it doesn't work flawlessly return the POS install kit and start running wires...
trust me, I have installed dozens (I'm too much of a nice GD guy!) of decks in many makes of cars and figuring out which factory wires do what is a waste of time. Just get a const hot (yellow fused wire) ground (black) ignition (red) and start running speaker wire!
If your deck does dimming connect that one, if your antenna is motorized connect that (blue) if you want that gay-ola remote mute button install that too (i think its pink, hint hint... take the hint!:)).
all colors are off the top of my head, but Im still willing to bet my 1st born son they're right!:stickoutt
Heh, I know a lot about computers, but I don't know what I'm doing with radio work... (I'm doing pretty good with paint work though, paint is done! Now I just have to do a final 1000 or 1500 grit sanding on the clear).

schweeeeet, colour sanding already? you go girl!
errrr oops :stickoutt
:laugh
The paint looks awesome! The color is much more cherry red than the old 16 year old paint, I love it! I was having some problems sanding with leaving scratches, but I got a really nice buffer and some expensive compound and glazes. I'll post some pics up tomorrow if I can get everything back together!

did you have water running whilst you were wet sanding?
No, I use a block and wetsanding paper, and I sand, then dunk the block in a clean bucket of water, then wipe the area down with a clean wet rag, then start again.
Unfortunately I will not be able to finish the buffing right now, I must go off to school, but I've got to come back some weekend pretty soon to finish. I did get all the runs and high points of the paint out. Unfortunately I burned through the clear in the very inside of a crease, so I will probably come back and touch it up, I'm not sure if I should or not because it is such a small area. I love the color, it looks much different than the old faded paint (it kind of had a purpleish hue to it). I'll try to get some pics if I can!

ah cool!
the technique I've heard of you have water slowly running continuously so the debris are washed away while you sand.... how much paper did you go through?
you're back to school already? I still have all of next week off before school "technically" starts, then a week of binge drinking on campus, the odd class (still drunk)... then alas back to the grindstone.:(

you have to connect that blue wire to the amp or else it will not turn on resulting in no sound from the speakers
Well, I don't start until the first, but I have to get a lot of stuff done down here. I can't wait to finish though, it will look awesome. I'll try to take some pics if I can get a camrea!
