I just both an E39 Touring from a friend of mine, and I knew from the very beginning I was going to have a problem paying the sale tax.

I decided to do a little bit of research and call the registry to find out how much the think my vehicle is worth. They came out with $ 7,500...which I argued by saying that's much more of what I've paid. They told me the use the N.A.D.A. ( not the one you see online or buy for consumers ) book and also the higher value, so if I'm a retard and put $20 K at the back of the title they will tax that amount.

Not happy with this girl's sort of broken record answer, I asked what should I do in order to protest or just to pay taxes for the right amount. She goes: "well go tell the Department of Revenue, the give us the numbers and we collect for them"

I called DOR and they told me the value to be tax was : $4,200 !!!!!. So How come the RMV is collecting $ 7,500 in your name??? " I dunno" if you have any problems tell them to give us a call, they always call us"

Well, happy enough with the answer I decided to gotr to the RMV in Watertown. My number is called and I get to talk to a not so very happy girl, who didn't agree with anything I said and decided to call " Mr Washington" THE BOSS :rolleyes.

He was as usless as a nun's tit, he would not listen, so I told him that since he's collecting for the DOR, he should give them a call to confirm. He first lied to me by saying "We never call them " "They call us" .:bs
So I call from my cell phone to DOR, ask to speak with someone there and started asking the same questions. He was telling me exactly the same thing " Have them call us " ..."they alway do".... " Anita always call us from there" this happening in front of a hundred people.

While still having DOR on the phone, I go back to Mr Washington, who still wouldn't talk to them!!!!!. He knew I was right, so I kept insisting to be tax for the right amount.

He finally snapped and call me behind the wall, to speak to someone.

This doooouchebagggg, who didn't introduced herself told me she wouldn't do anything to make this happen. So I invited to think a little bit outside the box , reminding her she is there to give me a service I'm entitle to.

I silently decided to go myself to DOR and somehow pay ther if possible. On my way out I asked her name, She goes" I'm Sheryl " - "Sheryl what...? "What's your full name ? . Shetold me that's all I need to know because she doesn't work for the RMV. So what the f@ck I was talking to her for ...????

To make the already long story short. I went to DOR in Boston, pulled an ST 7 R form, paid taxes over the amount I had in my title and that's it.

Then quick run to RMV in Boston, another girl with a question mark in her face, call her boss, boss says it's ok. MY car is now registered.

So.....

No 1. Don't let the RMV take more than what you're supposed to pay.

No2. Don't try to change people's mind like I tried with Mr Washington...they can be very stubborn. Even though knowing he was wrong.

No 3. If you think they trying to screw you, they probably doing it, so COMPLAIN!!!!!!..... :mad

Some of the stupidity we have to constantly put up with is our own fault, because we do not complain and we let them do what ever the hell they want.

I know it was a little bit long but I hope somebody can benefit from it just like I did.

Cheers.
Nestor.

my past 3 cars i haven't payed MA sales tax, whether it be gift form or bitching at the RMV counter lady. I was surprised to find out that my newest car(which i registered about a week ago) was only valued at $4200, seemed low for a 95 540i sport. So i payed sales tax for the first time. now i feel sort of justified for getting that 800 dollar tax return!

The RMV tried to tax me twice for my car, once in FL and once in MA. I just went in there trying to be as nice as possible to the person at the counter, cheering her up and everything, asking how her day was etc. Then we ran into the problem that I'm wasn't suppose to be taxed in FL but here in MA where I registered the car. But, when I got my temporary plate(which I found out is illegal for anyone with a MA drivers license, not sure if this is true) I was required to pay sales tax. I kept asking and telling her that the person at the RMV in FL said they would transfer the sales tax over to MA, but the lady said it was not true. I sort of forget the rest, but I ended up talking to her manager who ended up being a bitch. I made fun of her to the lady at the counter, she started laughing, she got everything figured out for me, I shook her hand, and was on my way. But yeah, they're sneaky mofos. My advice for anyone who knows they're going to have problems, be nice to the ppl there and they wont purposely screw you over.
