rdo1990 03-23-2009, 12:29 AM Well i think this law was like an unspoken one before but now its official none the less! read up people!
http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/032109_Move_over_law_starts_Sunday
savage217 03-23-2009, 12:36 AM Yea it's common sense.
edirtyfour 03-23-2009, 12:36 AM The official state info can be found here:
http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eopsagencylanding&L=4&L0=Home&L1=Crime+Prevention+%26+Personal+Safety&L2=Traffic+Safety&L3=Move+Over+Law&sid=Eeops
I heard from a reputable source that the staties were out on Rt. 2 today with an "emergency stop" trap set up and were ticketing people for not moving over. :rolleyes
Yea it's common sense.
Riiiiiiiiiiight - the insurance companies make more money off of a new surchargable offense, the state makes money off of citations, and the people who are so absolutely fucking oblivious that they RUN OVER PEOPLE standing next to vehicles with HUGE FLASHING STROBE LIGHTS are going to pay better attention and not run over people anymore.
I'm so glad to live in a state that passes such useful laws.
peter91118 03-23-2009, 01:30 AM who doesnt do that?
greenleaf 03-23-2009, 01:37 AM only in mass...
savage217 03-23-2009, 01:49 AM I dunno, that is basically what I do on a regular basis. Making it a law is a bit strict but it shouldnt be a problem for most people. Hopefully they dont abuse the law, although they probabaly will.
Whispaz 03-23-2009, 07:44 AM i just heard that on a radio ad the other day :confused
like everyone else whos posted i thought it was common sense too... plus it gives you chance to jump right in back of them and cut through traffic
M-technik-3 03-23-2009, 11:01 AM Just another way to fuck the common person over. The incident that drove this happened on 91 south this winter. Trucker clipped a trooper that jumped out of cruiser to assist a motorisit that was in the median but there was snow on the road and insufficent room for him to slow or move over.
Both should have been at fault. That day was a mess out here, 15 accident on 91 that morning.
Now the state setup staged pullover situations for revune is @#$^ing bullshit. When does our new gastax go into effect as well?
SatanVsJesus 03-23-2009, 11:24 AM So if I cant move over, and if I only reduce my speed by 1mph I'm good?
polishracing95 03-23-2009, 12:41 PM i just speed up.... no really who doesnt pull over
dophineh 03-23-2009, 07:24 PM why is this a law? everyone does it already anyway.
moar lawz :shifty
BIMMERIZED 03-23-2009, 09:28 PM I've always done that
Kevin E21 03-23-2009, 11:50 PM Just what we need... more laws.
hipe87 03-24-2009, 02:05 AM ha i thought every 1 did that any ways, down south where my mom lives if a cops on the side of the highway give a ticket you cant drive in the slow lane, you gotta pass them in a diff lane, either middle or fast lane,
edit: oh I'm sorry I misread it, this law only applies to stationary vehicles, I thought it was also covering moving vehicles.
JETBLACK 330 03-24-2009, 06:06 PM who doesnt do that?
You wouldn't believe the number of people that don't move out of the way for even a BRIGHT RED 25 ton fire truck. It's a good thing for anyone that drives an emergency vehicle. I do have my reservations about the law applying for tow truck drivers though.
peter91118 03-24-2009, 07:30 PM wait, is the a boston only thing?
greenleaf 03-24-2009, 09:21 PM going in the wrong direction:
http://www.sunherald.com/185/story/1221991.html
rdo1990 03-25-2009, 12:05 AM how is that the wrong direction? traffic light cams are not a fair way of ticketing people. For example, if you had your brother as a secondary driver and they run a red light, the person under PRIMARY driver gets the ticket and mark on their driving record. The quality and resolution of the pictures taken by the cams are not sufficient to get a good view of a driver's face. They accuse people based on the fact that their car was seen running a light and not by the driver. In my opinion, the cam is a city's excuse to make revenue without shelling out money for another job.
No it's not just Boston, it's all of Mass.
I also noticed a slow down, move over 'trap' on route 2, going into Alewife. 4 Lanes, no cars.. statie on the shoulder w/ his lights on.

...and the bounds of retardedness have been stretched even further again. What a complete waste of taxpayer $.
Kevin E21 03-27-2009, 07:47 PM I do have my reservations about the law applying for tow truck drivers though.
As much as I disagree with this law, I do not see why you have reservations about tow trucks.
I almost died because someone piled into the back of my old e21 as it was being winched on to a flat bed.
However, making a law, and then setting up traps to catch people the following week is bullshit.
This place is slowly turning into a police state. The real reason for these laws is it is another way to tax people. I have nothing against taxes, they are a necessary evil, but I do not agree with making new laws only to tax motorists even more to make up for the budget f*ck ups and stupid decisions our officials make.

i meant mass is going in the wrong direction, and miss is comparatively going in the right direction
tb0ne 03-28-2009, 02:49 AM only in mass...
...and NH.
I don't see why this shoudln't be a ticketable and surchargable offense.
tsylatac 03-28-2009, 02:58 AM I also noticed a slow down, move over 'trap' on route 2, going into Alewife. 4 Lanes, no cars.. statie on the shoulder w/ his lights on.
You mean the 'people driving illegally in the breakdown lane on rt2' trap? oh, yeah. that's been there for a while and mainly because you're not supposed to drive in the breakdown lane. :shifty
PixMan 03-28-2009, 08:48 AM This has been law (and common sense) in almost every other state in the union for quite some time now. I travel on business a lot and noticed how well drivers in other states obey the law.
It's going to take forever to get the idiot drivers in this state to figure it out. Remember, this is a state where "right turn on red" was finally approved about 15 years ago (30 years after most other states) and we still have boneheads sitting through the whole light cycle with nothing coming for miles.

You also have people that think right turn on red means you can turn without stopping. You can turn on red AFTER a stop. I hate that when I have a green arrow coming from the other direction, and the asshole with a turn on red doesn't stop.
The thing is making more laws doesn't solve the problem. Driver education needs to be improved. They should take a look at some of the driver education in Germany, Sweden, and other european countries like that. (Not referring to italy or spain where they drive like maniacs).
Driver's ed for me was sitting a in classroom. Watch a couple videos from the 1950's while the teacher sat and did their taxes or something. Pretty much a joke.
The on road time was not much better. They didn't teach you anything about car control or how to react in certain situations. Basically they picked you up, and you drove for 15 minutes to the next students house, then they drove you home.

Yup, just one more pet peeve with me because I am one of the 3 or 4 people in the whole fookin state that comes to a complete stop for a right-on-red, and almost get nailed from behind every time. Or, the horn. Massholes.
