Would like to hear how others (if at all) "race" with their e38. My ride is loaded down with dead weights from from front air dam/spliters, skirts, spoilers, A/V system, custom-moldings....sure I modded my intakes, exhaust, trans/engine Dinan chips but the 740iL is still heavy. I beat a few honda's...they always wanna "race" me....but not at take off....I killed them a few seconds later after take off. On the highway, it would be no contest but no bites yet on the highway...only in the city.

Anyways, how would you people "race"?

The strength of the 7 isn't 1/4 mile launches, rather it is the ability to cruise at high speeds for long periods of time.
To make it a 1/4 mile racer would mean stripping the car to a shell and making it devoid of any of the attributes that make it a 7 in the first place.
Basically a 7 will be the ultimate highway cruiser. For 1/4 mile stuff it is the wrong platform to begin with.
I have had some racing experience with the 7, and it's strength is the pull in the middle of the rpm range. Launching Baby at the track is frightening because of the stress the drivetrain bears with the 4400 lbs curb weight. Add my considerable 290 lb ass and it becomes a real challange.

Why would you want to race the e38 anyway? That car is built for cruising...

Not looking to race...

...I don't seek to race....It's just that dem "Ricers" would fart and grinned at me .....that just pissed me off....so, I said wtf....see if he can take me at a distance.....

....just detest dem fart cans.....!!

But yes, I mainly cruised with my 7.

i have no problem holding my own with the 7 through my favorite stretch of twisty mountain road. it's amusing to hear the exhausts of the WRX and M3 in front of me get really loud, then still be right behind them through a few S-curves.

With the roughly 3800 lbs you're throwing around there, just knock 'em off the road... :)

I'm waiting for the chance for someone to try my Bimmer! I've only been in a few small stints so far. 90% of my encounters are on the highway. (476, 95, 76, 202) I had a great chance with a fully tricked out Honda, but I think he was just plain scared next to me at a light. You cannot see in my windows.

It has held true with my Turbo Miata, that every time I drive more than 45 minutes someone races me, or I cant let someone who deserves it go by. Even older guys have raced my Miata- a powerful Jag with his nervous wife, another SC'd Miata. Others include Miatas, Integras, an NSX, an S4, a WRX, Civics, Civics, etc. I think over 25 encouters- I've been meaning to keep a kill log. I can dice through any traffic like a go-kart, but my 740 would beat my Miata in a high speed drag. That's because the Miata runs out of Gear!

I've had a few nice off the line races against some respectable cars. I beat an Eclipse gt-s a few weeks ago. On the freeway, though, once you're at speed. That's when you can really take people.

Sure, I'm always beating those minivans and SUVs off the line. I OWN THEM! Pssh.. :) I can hold my own against those heavily mod'd Hondas but I'll let them pass me up on occasion so they can impress their teenaged girlfriends. Its in the fwy when the 7 really shines. Yes, it's a big cruiser, no doubt, the weight of the car including me in it makes it ponderous and almost unstoppable. Thank god for those big brakes!

SUVs? Minivans? My dear, your 7er is far greater than that. Depending on the driver, you could take a Cooper S and other cars such as that.
