Headed down the freeway this morning on my way to play hockey. Cruising at about 80 when this Saab comes up the on ramp ahead of me by about 100 yards. I figure I'll catch him soon, but notice the distance stays the same for awhile, so I accelerate a bit to close the gap and notice he does the same. So now I'm thinking, "Wonder just how fast this twerp wants to run?" It's early Sunday morning and there isn't hardly any traffic so I figure it's on.

Then I see a plume of brownish, exhaust-type smoke from his car which stinks to high heaven. We're running about 110 at this point and I'm closing in. Another plume of smoke. I'm just about to pull over into the next lane and go around him when the third and biggest plume and some debris comes out of his POS and.......crap!.....the speed limiter kicks in at 130. Guess it's time to get sharked to eliminate that crap.

I still wonder what the hell was coming out of his car. I had to get off at the next exit and he kept going, so he obviously didn't totally blow it up. But, I wonder if something in his turbo puked.:biglaughb

Yeah, never heard of any smoke situations from Saab, but you know those pieces of crap, always breaking down. But i was also wondering what a 9-3's top speed is. I could swear that it was lower than 130mph.:dunno

Anyway, if you'd been chipped, you would of beat his POS.

good kill. Maby the smoke was a secreat weapon to stop other racers fom getting to close to him.

Your right...I think all SAAB's are turbocharged. The smoke is a little strange I think. They go pretty good. Anyhow, nice SAAB story.
Best,

If youre asking questions like 'Are all Saabs turbocharged?' I dont really think youre qualified to be determining the running condition of the car - let alone be calling it a POS.

If he had "owned" me, I wouldn't have been able to close the gap and catch him. Not sure how he owned me.

Who finished ahead? ;)

I only called it a POS because of the smoke, stench, and other assorted crap coming out the back of that thing. I have no ill will towards Saabs in general.

Oh, and I didn't ask the question about whether all Saabs are turbocharged.

Had to get off at my exit. There wasn't an 'end' so I'm not sure how anyone finished.

But, you are right. The fact that my speed limiter kicked in and he either didn't have one, or it's higher than mine, means he had me on top end. But the fact remains that he wasn't able to get to 130 as quickly as I did.

Doesn't matter if you had to bail, or if he won due to your limiter, he was in front you.... owned... ;) :D

So, in your opinion, that he started out a couple hundred yards ahead of me and couldn't keep me from closing is owned? I wouldn't feel like I owned anyone if I couldn't keep them from closing on me. Difference of opinion. I'll respect yours. I just don't agree with it.

Let me see if I understand correctly : if your car does 0-60 in 6 seconds, but that your top speed is limited to 65, and you race a car that does 0-60 in 6.5 but has no limiter, you still win?

He held you off, smoke and all, I don't care where you started... it's where you finish that matters... ;)

Yes, if the race is to 60! :12:

Geesh, I give! You win! I got owned. I wouldn't think a pro-BMW board's members would be so quick to turn. I'll file this away for posterity. Start out 1/4 mile ahead of that Viper that wants to play, and as long as I beat him to the next exit, I own him!

As you can see from my post count, I'm relatively new here, and obviously don't belong, so I'll move on.

Sorry to have wasted the bandwidth. Later.

No need to move on, but the 'BMW Prick' stereotype is ruthlessly bashed when it rears its ugly head. No harm meant - we actually went pretty easy on you. ;)

He was infront of you. He owned you. You would have "Owned", him if you would have passed him up. Think about it ;)

What hes trying to say is if they started racing side by side, he wouldve been ahead of the saab by the end. The saab started in front of him and he managed to pull quite a bit on the saab closing in before he hit the limiter.

If two people dont start out around the same area, as in close to being side by side, IMO whoever is in front at the end means nothing, its who pulled on who. Fact is, had they been side by side he wouldve won .. why should the guy in front always be the victor even if he started 5 carlengths ahead of you and ended with a bumper on you? That means you pulled on him hardcore ..

oh well .. this reminds me of the time i raced some integra and smoked him, the light ahead was turning yellow and i braked because we were going to end up running the red light; he kept going and ran the red light, then hit his hazards like he beat me, even though he saw me brake for the light. I guess you guys would consider that getting owned too :\ rice boy racing style..

SilverStreak

I think we were saying he got owned cuz he busting on the POS Saab smoking all over the place, yet he never overtook him. And it was light hearted ribbing/teasing, etc...

Think of a NASCAR race, there's a re-start on the last lap, who wins the race? The guy who's in front, doesn't matter if the guy behind him had the faster car if he couldn't get around him...

Don't get me wrong I've toyed with cars myself. There was a Boxster S one day that was floored balls out, wide open throttle on the highway. At will, I could pull right up on his bumper, back off, pull up again, back off, all the while he's floored from 65-130 mph. I was laughing my ass the whole time, just playing with him...

Jeez, way NOT to put up much of a fight.... we «win», you move on? WTF?

Nest time (if there is one...), whether you can pull or not or pass or not another car, don't bash it that much. For some reason, we're not as narrow-minded as you might expect. We love bimmers, but we love cars in general.

If that Saab managed to hold on at those speeds, it may be owned by an enthusiast (and it wasn't «owned» by you this time around!) who modded it.

Like Stuttgart said, we went easy on you, so don't act like the little kiddy that got poked at by his parents and keep posting, will ya?

Don't let these guys get to you. They're just having a little fun.
I have a lot of chases. Sometimes you come up behind a guy, challange him, but can't get around him for good reason. Yesterday I ran against a Gran Prix. Never got around him because of traffic (I think).

But next time screw the exit. Go after the game! The hunt never stops until somebody gets killed! :evil2

As a Saab owner (I owned an 88 SPG, modified intake, APC, suspension) previous to the 325is, I can tell you that there are a LOT of Saabs that will surprise you. Never heard of diesel Saab though. I would bet the turbo was screwy. Saabs are very easy to modify, despite the lack of an aftermarket. I personally love those cars (900 and 93's anyway) and consider them good competion.

Saab has made diesel engines for quite some time. Check here for some aftermarket goodies: www.abbottracing.com

NOS makes your car burp up a cloud of smoke when you flick the switch. :)
