I was on the interstate heading home when I decided to make a detour. There's a loop that I love with an overpass, a hard right, and then a long left handed sweeper. Well I went out of my way to enjoy this little part of the highway, but my fun was spoiled before it started when I noticed a Police Cruiser coming up behind me. Lately the local police have been tailgating drivers to coax them into speeding, and giving them tickets. I drove over the overpass about 15 MPH below the speed limit with the fuzz on my rear bumper. I nailed the throttle exiting the hard right and through the sweeper my Valentine 1 was blowing up. As the road straightened up I made sure I was back at the speed limit. I knew that as long as he couldn't point the front of his car at me, he couldn't get a good radar reading. (Thank God it wasn't a handheld type). As we entered the I-310 he passed me and looked directly at my radar detector. The guy didn't look to happy. I guess he kinda felt disrespected. Oh Well, he should have been picking on guys driving too slow in the fast lane.

Yeah not the ordinary kind, but it felt like one because he couldn't get close enough to line me up with his radar and I thwarted his attempt to give me a ticket. Although I guess in retrospect he could have given me general speeding.

Why would he use radar when he's right behind you? Wouldn't he just pull you over and say he paced you? And on top of that, if he's on your bumper like you said and you just gun it he can say it was an unsafe "exhibition of speed". Maybe it's different here, but a cop will pull you over for driving 15 under the limit. He'll tell you you're going too slow! Sorry, I'm just a little confused by the events in your story.

He could have done the things you said, but in South Louisiana the only tickets they care to give is speeding. With regard to exhibition of speed, that's generally given to people peeling out from traffic lights and such. I didn't do anything illegal. He thought that I was goign to haul ass away from him though. As far as pacing me, by the time the road straightened out and he came up on me I was back to doing the speed limit.
Don't get me wrong, basically all I did was accellerate away from him quickly, and enough so that he couldn't point his radar at me.
And being that we was slowing down at the time i was speeding up, the gap openned up quickly. From my perspective, it appeared to him that I would take off, and he was set to ticket me, but given the circumstances he had no grounds to do so and he knew it. He could have given me general speeding which is a 50 dollar ticket, i think, of which you don't need proof of speed. But those are thrown out of court a lot here.
It was no dramatic high speed chase or anything of that sort.
It was just satisfying to frustrate a cop in light of the bullshit tactics they've been using here to fatten up the budget with speeding tickets.

Cops can give you a VERY hard time regardless of your actual speed. Try not pissing them off, it will make your life much easier. This is from someone who knows how NOT to get a ticket.

I had a pig on my bumper like that a week ago. Cops are crooks that are too stupid to be successful criminals.
