View Full Version : So I found it and bought it
ChrisFuture8 03-12-2009, 06:14 PM Good day to everyone in the 8 world. About a month ago I started a thread expressing an interest purchasing an 8. Anyways, as I was looking one of the senior members on here pointed to a car just made available in Canada. I was hesitant at first because I knew the import, registration, and smogging can be a headache. Thanks to the way the previous owner maintained the car and the upgrades he did to it, I finally decided to pull the plug.
The car I bought is the number 2 car from Wuffer...the one and only Tom Carter. Yup, you have seen pictures of that car on his site so no need for me to post pictures right? There will be a few things I would like to do to it but it's a beautiful car overall and I'm getting plenty of looks....what do I expect, it's bright red...LOL.
A very BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Bill Fox for assistance in facilitating the entire process, Tom for a great deal, and Carter (in Sacto) for doing plenty of research and reports for me. What a bunch of Great Guys!!!
So am proud to be an owner of a beautiful 8 :) just like most of you on here.
By the way, anyone has a spare (new or used) 850i emblem that doesn't need and want to give away or sale? Please let me know. The stealership is asking $40 for it and of course, it has to be special ordered.
Thanks,
-Chris
BTW: I just registered with roadfly and my alias on there is Chris_850_V12 (not very creative, huh).
Mark850 03-12-2009, 06:29 PM Good luck with her...Tom's a great guy..You couldn't of bought a better kept car..:)
motorisym850 03-12-2009, 06:40 PM Hey Chris!
Congratulations for starters. Secondly, I saw your car today at the DMV. Unfortunatly, I was tied up on a conference call and you left before I got a chance to say hello. She is definitely a beauty... BTW- We missed you in Santa Rosa. I would have thought you would of joined us for the annual event. Oh well, there is next year. See you around SJ.
Koizumi 03-12-2009, 06:45 PM Nice score! Welcome to the fast lane!
ChrisFuture8 03-12-2009, 06:57 PM Really, you saw me there? This morning I was contemplating whether to go to that DMV or the one in Santa Clara off of Lawrence. I am glad I went there because the guy who did the physical inspection and the lady who gave me a temp operating permit were great. I even got it smogged today...a true success compared to the idiot at the Smog Referee garage at the Evergreen Valley college. The funny thing is, I wouldn't have known who you are even if I blindly bumped into you...LOL...would have to meet you in person first. I wanted to attend the Santa Rosa gig but I just had too many things to take care of at home. The whether sure was nice for that event wasn't it?
Cheers,
-Chris

ChrisFuture8 03-12-2009, 10:01 PM 8, well, should I keep the big secret from you about the very rare sports seats Tom installed in the car?;)
Wuffer 03-12-2009, 10:21 PM Didnt install them - car came with that option - same as my #1 car. NA in the US, optional and somewhat rare in Canada and NA in Japan.

austin8 03-13-2009, 04:01 PM Congratulations and what a buy. Tom definitely knows the 8 front to back so I am sure you got an incredible e31. Nice job on waiting for the right one as they say good things come to those who wait. Cheers

Hi Austin8. I didn't really wait that long. I just wanted to make sure I didn't buy a complete junker and I received lots of great advices from this board during my search. But you are definitely right about "good things come to those who wait". This particular Confucius is quite true this time.
Cheers,
-Chris

I'm familar with the large cargo net that covers the trunk mat area. How does that side net attach? Anyone happen to have a photo of that?
Koizumi 03-19-2009, 10:36 PM Here ya go:

I don't remember how the side net attached to the trim panel.
I think it clips on to the panel like a pen clip?
Ahhh, the days of intoxication have taken a toll on my short/long-term memory.
Both nets are very handy, I use them daily to hold my photo & computer equipment in place.

that's not to mention the 7 or so other 8's i've seen driving around sf in the last 8 months. that's alot of 8's in one place considering how few were imported! that almost makes our cars.... commonplace :lol
congrats on the new purchase and welcome to the club. hope to see you out cruisin' and if i do you'd better freakin' wave :D
ChrisFuture8 03-20-2009, 05:12 AM Hi Ed1655. Will sure give you that big wave when if I run into ya.
Chuck850 03-20-2009, 02:48 PM Nope - still got that one here... 8-)

I'm not a fabricator, but it doesn't appear to me that it would be that hard to make a form for this and maybe make this piece out of fiberglass or some other material and cover it in a matching fabric. Given that these pieces are a little over $100 retail, I would think a small batch of them could cover the development time to design and produce them. I just wish I had one of them that could be used as a template for production :)
1chiban 03-20-2009, 03:51 PM Welcome! You've made quite a few people here extremely jealous. Tom is one of a kind, I can't wait to see what you do to make her your own!
Cheers,
Thomas
ChrisFuture8 03-21-2009, 05:11 PM Tom has already done a lot to her so I'm going to enjoy driving her for a while before but I throw in some big items. For now, I will work on replacing/upgrading the headliner to ultrasuede and throwing in an EML chip as suggested by Chrome. Later, a nice, high-end stereo system (I'm a sucker for fine audio), upgrade shocks and struts, M5 LSD diff, interior reupholstered, carbon fiber trims, etc.
Cheers,
-Chris
