How to harwire a V1 in e31?

I didn't hardwire mine, but went for 12v from the glovebox instead with one of these (plugs into the Flashlight charger). Need to remember to unplug it... but for how often I use my V1 (highway only), it was a good compromise in not having to tear apart anything. Just routed the wiring up the A-Pillar from the Glovebox, and across the top of the windshield to where my V1 mounts (by the rearview).

I borrowed power from the auto-dimming mirror; fabricated a quick harness for the V1 and the HomeLink when I was making the adaptor harness to use the e38 rearview mirror. This leaves you with but a few inches of cable and a nice, clean look/install.

There's work in the e36 area to adapt the V1 into the factory OBC display along with GPS, etc. I'm following this closely as it progresses. It would dim the V1 lights to black and all displays would be done via the MID

Yes, I also have the auto dimming mirror. Any instructions here on the net with photos?

Unfortunately I won't be able to ID the wire colors I used, or snap any photos until about a week from now, if nobody has posted up by then, I'll be sure to pop the cover off and take a picture for you.

Remember though, mine will look slightly different as I have about 6" of extra harness to adapt the e31 auto-dimming plug to the e38 (7 series) auto-dimming plug

I used the power from the sunroof motor. Easy to access the wiring by pulling the cover. Ran the cord along the mirror grommet. Power's off with the ignition. 15 minute job. The Valentine hardwire adaptor fits easily.

Good luck.

Do you have any pictures off the process?

www.wuffer.net (http://www.wuffer.net) , go to the "download" section and get a copy of the ETM. It has the wiring diagram in it so you can see where to tap into the power for either the sunroof motor or the dimming rearview mirror. Remove the sunroof switch cover and you sshould see the motor and it's wires.

There is a StealthOne on eBay right now, I just bought one from there last week.

It will display the V1 info on your MID.
