View Full Version : Installed wokke chip today. wow!
crazy8 03-07-2009, 06:44 PM I know this is a common thread on these forums, but i must say i was really impressed by the added performance of the chip wokke chip for the 840. Mr. Wokke makes a great product. Easy installation, plug and play performance. Throttle response is much smoother now and it's got way more grunt at the low end. sounds meaner to boot! :buttrock:buttrock:buttrock
UZ4PLAY 03-07-2009, 07:12 PM I must say that I feel the same way how significantly Wolfs product inhances the performance to my 850. I actually am suprised that he hasn't made an emblem that we can put on our cars to show that we back his product. BMW has a line of emblems, many other manufactures have them as well like AMG, Dinan, Callaway, etc. So I had this idea of a Wokke emblem. It can be as simple as the pictures shown or they can be fallowed by the letters okke. Plus Wolf can customize the colors on the flag. What do you think Wolf & the rest of you?

I was thinkin the same thing. I like the second emblem you posted! but yeah enough of us have his products that it would be cool to rep it like the rest of them. I think it would be cool to get the okke too. colors maybe blue and red.........
Neuance 03-07-2009, 08:10 PM Just rotate the M emblem 180 deg. and you will have one lol.

53helofe 03-07-2009, 10:54 PM Yes, this is a very delicious upgrade!!!! I like the emblem idea, you creative people rock.
bRIZZAd 03-07-2009, 11:06 PM The upsidedown 'M' would probably get some eyebrows and laughs from other bimmer owners though. "That fool doesn't know which way the emblem goes!"
UZ4PLAY 03-07-2009, 11:41 PM I get the whole M upside down thing. :) I think the entire name would be more suitable with the upside down M as a start. I've PM'd Wolf and since its his product I'm sure he'll have some ideas of his own.

wokke 03-08-2009, 06:40 AM Hi folks and especially UZ4PLAY,
thanks for pointing me to this thread which I missed since I'm sooo busy with my new job which leaves me hardly any time for enjoyable things to do. I indeed have thought about an emblem some time ago and never really followed up on it. This thread though shows me that it is worth thinking about it, but it is more difficult than many of you may be aware of. Turning the Motorsport M upside down is indeed the first thing that came into my mind, BUT: I have to check the legal side of it. Quite likely this font is BMW specific and they have covered it by international patents. My idea has been to replace the Motorsport "flag" by the German flag (black, red, gold) followed by the upside down M and okke behind it. I do have contacts to someone who could do this in 3D for hopefully reasonable cost.
I will look into it and get back to you as soon as I have more specific info on the legal aspect. I guess I have to contact BMW directly on this matter. It may sound way too complicated for some of you but I know of one case where a guy "abused" some BMW IP and they had no problems to sue him for an incredible amount of money which ruined the rest of his life.
Cheers
Wolf
P.S. I really appreciate all the back up and support I receive in this great forum. THANKS A LOT TO ALL OF YOU.
ogorek 03-08-2009, 01:18 PM German flag and M upside down - i dont like the idea. Maybe something more original? More simple?
8eights 03-08-2009, 03:48 PM I agree! Something simple like, Wokke??
Noggie 03-08-2009, 04:42 PM Why have anything at all??
My car is clean, the only markings on it is the BMW roundell.
Oh, and I have a small sticker from "Felgen-garage.de" on my rear window.
No 850CIA badge on the back.
And even though I have Hartge cams and programming there are no Hartge marking on my car.
I like the de-badged look, it's clean pluss adds that little piece of mystery to it.
Closest I get to a badge is that my licence plate ends with 850.
What should I put in the car this summer?
850CIA SC Hartge??
Nah... think I'll keep it clean.
Fatandre 03-08-2009, 05:48 PM Yeag. I hate the emblems. My friend has a MB CLS. On the back he has cls 320 tds brabus. Its grose
tdotbimmer 03-08-2009, 08:14 PM A simple W with wokke embossed across it is fine. And to avoid non-chip owners from putting this on their cars, it should only come with a purchase of a chip. I am tired of seeing M and Hamann emblems on cars that have no M motor or hamman ugrades. Takes away from those who actually do have it.
icheeban17 03-08-2009, 11:46 PM what is the current price of wokke's chip set for 2009 .How about just a logo for under the hood like Facial put 6.0 under his hood.

I hear ya but you know how it goes! Wolf allready has people trying to profit from his chips. I'm sure they'll be able to replicate a emblem.
BUT at least they'll be one. With his personalization they will be copying him. I know where mine will come from. If you want to wear it you can, if you don't want to wear it you don't.
wokke 03-09-2009, 11:01 AM ... And to avoid non-chip owners from putting this on their cars, it should only come with a purchase of a chip...
definitely. It would be a non sellable item.
I have already changed the stickers on the chips because Mr. 850vien has even copied those (almost). On his EML chip it says "Vmax Aufhebung" and I bet he doesn't know what that means. But he will certainly claim that the stickers are identical to mine because we have the same supplier which is BS as you all know. I do not have a supplier, I burn them myself because I once bought the IP for quite some money. Only the EML V2.0 I haven't bought the IP (yet) and need to buy every single chip myself.

I decided last Wednesday to have the summer tires mounted and force the spring to show up this way :D
Didn't really work. Next morning we had snow fall and in the evening I drove to Switzerland on a muddy and snowy road :( Luckily only about 30km and on the way back it was almost melted.

unless you ahve a very early '95 your car is equipped with a Motronic 484 and EWS-II. This requires some individual programming. I have opened a thread regarding this quite some time ago describing the procedure:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1023279&highlight=484
It's not as easy and more expensive as with the earlier 404 Motronic, but still possible.

Yes, that's the M60 engine with a 404 Motronic. Chip replacement is plug & play.
Cost is US$249,- minus US$25,- forum discount and in case Paypal is used US$30,- for shipment with registered mail (Paypal requirement).

Nice one. As I say, there are other things on the to do list but this will deffinately be added.
I'm in the UK so would dollars still be preferred payment option? (I could do Euros or pounds if you'd rather although I guess it's easier for you if all transactions are in dollars).
Also, and this is probably a bit of a silly question: do the chips provide any power/torque increase or is it just driveability that's improved? I've also heard talk of transmition chips... any gen on these?
Steve
ps. Sorry for the semi-thread hijack!
EDIT: Just found my way to your ebay store and the power increase looks quite impressive! **chips move higher up Steve's to-do list**

To answer the power/torque question, the wokke chip definitely gives you more power and torque along with driveability. The big difference is really at the lower rpms where the 840s really lack "oomf." After putting my chip in i immediately noticed a more "put your head in the seat" feel off the line. It can be best felt in s4 which is really fun around town and for getting on the freeway:buttrock. Otherwize, power seems to come on smoother and more even, rather than spooling up like the 840s do stock. I'm actually getting better gas mileage too since it is easier to control the power around town. The stock set-up seemed to be kinda strange and vauge with different peadal imputs. Wokke chip in, vauge feel gone! :alright Definitly worth getting!!
My cars vin sticker in on the drivers door says 3/95. Is this 404 or 484? If there is any other way to tell let me know so that I get the right chip setup.
That might be a 484 if that is the build date. Mine is a 95 model year but built in mid 94. To be absolutely sure, go into your computer module (black plastic box) near the left hood hinge and look at the code on your ecm. (it will be a long string of numbers either ending in 404 or 484 on a sticker). Hope this helps! good luck!
nukeduster 03-14-2009, 09:40 AM Is anyone else disappointed with their chip? I just installed mine today and let the ecu learn the chip again and then went out driving about 60 miles and didn't notice any difference at all. I have a 404 ecu 840ci. It's definately positively 100% certain not the claimed 326hp. I'm thinking it might be more of a 290hp range, if that.
Funny thing is I had a headers back exhaust built today for the car too, you'd think that the combo together would have produced some largely noticable difference.
I'll see next month at the next euro meet at the dyno what the difference really is.
UZ4PLAY 03-14-2009, 12:56 PM Although I have a 850, you would be the first that hasnt noticed "any" difference.

I wish I knew where the 326HP number comes from!! There is NO chip alone that will give that increase (40 HP) on a M60 engine, Dyno number will confirmed that chips do make a difference BUT not an extreme HP difference! Yes the torque curve will change and to the "butt" dyno feels better. The human sensors are the worst in the world. Put on load mufflers and you will definitely feel more HP, right?
If the M60 with a chip alone would produce 326 HP at the crank, it would show on a dyno as about 266 HP at the wheels. Haven't seen those numbers at the wheelsfrom a M60!!??

Would it make a difference in my gas milege? Also, would my E mode on my Automatic would shift differently? I am guessing the S mode is going to be super fun now! Any feedback would be appriciated :)

The wokke chip can be best appreciated in s mode for sure! The tranny doesn't shift any differently though. (Dinan makes the only tranny chip).
I've noticed an actual increase in my gas milage. I'm guessing because the fuel delivery is tuned to be more efficient. Stock 840s tend to have a kind of hestinent almost balky power delivery so it's hard to be smooth with the throttle application. The wokke chip improves drivability to so can in turn drive more efficiently. Of course on average my gas milage is worse because i drive in s all the time and can't keep my foot of it:stickoutt

I can't find which set you have. V1 or the enhanced V2? The BIG difference is with V2 I'd say.

Hey Vinny,
sorry again for the inconvenience with the broken chip. I'm glad everything is ok now.
In regards to the Dinan tranny chip I'm the wrong person to ask. I never had a chance to test those chips since they don't sell them in Germany - to small of a market for BMWs I guess :stickoutt
But I don't think that it can harm the performance in any way to install that DINAN chip since it won't replace any of my chips. BTW; I've checked my tranny DME recently and have no idea which chip DINAN replaces. What I saw though was, that all chips are soldered so it is not as easy as with the other chips. Please let me know your experience in case you go that route.

http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq138/rcrad6653/P1020659.jpgI have to get a shoot together for us..Because when I saw that car last night at my house it looked 1,000,000x better..You take pics like me.. So how you like the new Motorhome??
8eights 08-04-2009, 11:24 PM Nice color combo, Is that the Mk1 candidate?
wokke 08-05-2009, 03:30 AM hey wolf! you are a mans man!!! too cool! thanks for your reply and i will let you know my experience if i go that route. i just might!! lol cheers wolf
Thanks Vinny :drink1
p.s- you really need to think about starting an official performance chip line!! you will make a killing, matterfact an massacure with those v2 wokkes!! think about it or you probably have........good luck
Soon my chips sold within the US will be shipped directly from California which should reduce travel time dramatically. Also an ECU swap program is planned to make it even easier than what it is today.
tell me more mo. iam going that route by the end of this month. really compliments... sounds like cops in my rear view..lol ......speeding......
can bay diagnostics do the actual installation and how long does it takes for them to install if they do that? thanks mo
I'm definitely interested in the outcome. Funny enough there is no one in Germany selling a tranny chip and quite honestly I have no real idea what such a chip is supposed to do.
Faster shifting?
Changed shifting points in E mode?
As I say, looking forward to getting some info.
Cheers
Wolf

thanks a lot. I guess then I don't need such a chip. If I want this I just shift manually in M mode :stickoutt
Cheers

GimmieSumMo72 08-05-2009, 08:56 AM It makes a pretty good difference when you get out of 1st gear in economy mode, even greater in sport mode.
The V2 chip complements it very well b/c of the faster opening TB's.

It is indeed Marv, with 255/295 Toyo Proxes, Kmac sways, and M-technic springs. Should be fun when it's all on.

Then it will look like Blake's car....
:) :) :)
rcrad6653 08-05-2009, 10:09 AM I can't deny that Tx, Blake will always have been first with his great looking example. But as you know I've got a few tricks up my sleeve to set it apart.... ;)
TxGR8White 08-05-2009, 11:02 AM I hope you didn't take that the wrong way. I personally have my own "dream 8" which happens to be a Mauritius Blue CSi with the interior that Esmerelda has. The Blake comment was meant as a reference to what yours will look like when the MK's get slapped on.
:)
rcrad6653 08-05-2009, 11:23 AM Not at all and quite the contrary, twas a compliment I thought because Blake's got a killer car. When done the way I want it'd be cool to have a shoot together, which is entirely possible as we're both from Indiana.
TxGR8White 08-05-2009, 11:50 AM will it be done by October? That would be a cool photo op!
There is a new owner here in Dallas that has a 91 Mauritius blue with gray interior. I am trying to help him get his car "up to snuff" and have told him about October - he seems interested.
rcrad6653 08-05-2009, 12:13 PM It should be. I don't need special planet alignment or anything, just enough money. The MKs will be done (had to deal with the owner coming up w/prostate cancer) and will be spendy after all that was done to save that rear wheel, a grand for tires, the M-tech mirrors are in stock, and the suspension stuff is here but I'll wait to drop it to get before 'n after with the MKs. You'll help with one distinctive item, and the other is ready to go when I save up enough for shipping cost to my nearest port from merry olde England....;) Mark850's guy is local and a paint-match master, so no prob getting that done. It's expensive to be like Blake! :stickoutt
Thanks Wolf. Installed your V2 chipset about three weeks ago. The transaction was flawless, delivery was on time, installation was simple, and performance is exactly as advertised. It's like the block of wood under my gas pedal was removed. Having a 6-speed, it did take a bit of getting used to the quicker throttle response when starting out. Miles per gallon are down but smiles per gallon are way up.
