View Full Version : Holmes tried to sneak me!
I am at a two-lane light that merges to one lane about 1000 yards up - chatting with my passenger, clowning around, coolin, but still not missing the black, late 80's Trans Am that is creeeeeeping up on my right. He stops just before his nose would be noticeable through my side window and through the chatter and laughter of my passenger I <i>think</i> I hear the sound of his automatic V8 being revved up against the brakes....
Green.
The abruptly loud wheel spin from his launch snaps my passenger's neck right, and the car reveals itself in my right window as a GTA with gold honeycombs as it begins its short-lived thrust forward. I had brought the car to 2000 RPM just before the light changed, and took it to 3500 with a bit of slip for an easier, sans-gorilla launch.
Holmes got about 3/4 car in front of me before I sailed by him like he wasn't racing, with a nice 2-3 chirp accompanying his face full of Tri-Flo. With Holmes easily dispatched, and my passenger back to business laughing and yukking it up about the ho he defiled the previous night, I took my right and continued on my way.

(My first car was a 97 GTA, maroon with black honeycombs)

euro4life 08-01-2003, 01:07 PM Don't you have a 3.46lsd? Any other major mods done? Cams, FI, complete engine build...

Bet it doesn't skip as much as the POS "Business CD" we get. Business as in It ain't got no BUSINESS being in my car.:D
Sirtger: I know the sound of a car being brake-torqued when I hear it, and this was no V6.
John: Good to see you as well. I hope we can chill at BFEST East.
euro4life: My car makes 217 whp/221 tq on the dyno with intake/exhaust/SW, and yes a 3.46
Zoso: No. I decided against the mullet at 13 because it clashed with my Rolex.

Then let me help you make that connection.
My mention of my first car, a 87 GTA, prompted Zoso to respond with:

Which begat the response:

Of course, back then in 1986 it was known as a "hockey hair cut," until the inevitable evolution of the mullet terminology.
Hope this helps.
TwinRotor/Turbo: Thanks.
stjobs 08-02-2003, 09:38 PM Chris: I'm guessing it was an 87 GTA, not a 97 :)

CtheM3go 08-02-2003, 09:39 PM Uh... I see. So when one is 13 years old and has a Rolex, it is used more often to accessorize a hairstyle? I have a Rolex, but I usually just use it to tell time. I guess I can't really decide which comment is more lame...you calling attention to your having a Rolex, a Rolex at 13, or that you're even admitting that you considered your watch when getting your hair cut. What if it would have been a TAG? Still clash?
Hope you found the humor.
Best,
Jim

I was 13 years old. Who <i>wasn't</i> lame at 13 years old? However I do admit that I was totally smitten by my dying grandmother's final present, even if it did get stolen at prep school. Oh and good to hear you have a Rolex too.
Tell you what - when you finally decide which one you think is more lame, let me know, and I promise to try to care.
What if it would have been a TAG? Still clash?
Probably not. I bet a TAG would accentuate a mullet quite nicely.
Hope you found the humor.
Best,
Jim
Easily - The humor was just as lame as my "Rolex at 13" comment, but clearly lameness begets lameness. :dunno:
CtheM3go 08-03-2003, 04:16 AM Don't get defensive CMT, I'm just pointing out that you obviously (to me) made the mention of the Rolex to make it seem that you were too good for a mullet. Maybe you were, maybe you were not. The jury is still out on which of the two were tackier. Personally, I find a mullet in better taste than your comment. Tp wit, make the same comment minus you reference to a Rolex and you will see just how ridiculous you sounded...
"...I decided against the the Mullet because it clashed with my watch."
Lame.
How long after meeting a stranger do you find a way to work into the conversation the kind of car you drive, (or the watch you wear).
I appologize, way off topic, but that just struck a nerve.
::::stepping off soapbox:::::
Was "beget" the word of the day or the word of the week on your vocabulary building list?
:)
runetang[1337] 08-03-2003, 11:29 AM 5.7 hard pumping liters of all american muscle!!
that are only able to produce a measily 225hp .. the same amount a german 2.8 would with bolt-ons .. -snicker-
sorry i just have to poke fun at american car manufacturers because only until the last 6-7 years or so have they been able to put out decent numbers despite having such big engines, stock of course. :)

I tried. I did. But in the end it would take actual effort for me to care less. :dunno:
Do feel free to keep repeating your point, however.

It was a joke. It was lame! Did I not concede this? Can you not read? Who gives a shit? How long after meeting a stranger do you take issue with an inconsequential statement and make an ass out of your self by not letting it go?

 Clearly. I cannot wait to hear more about it. Hell, I am sure by the time we're done your intimation will have spawned at least three pages, and all of them useless.

Find someone else to bait - you do not warrant the reaction.
CtheM3go 08-03-2003, 02:25 PM I most certainly seem to warrant a reaction from you. For someone who couldn't care less, you certainly are putting forth significant effort...
I'm finished.

Past indiscretions aside, I've been meaning to tell you that I like the pic of your car. Nice effect using the cars driving by.

Back in 1987 that would have been a very respectable HP number from a car in it's class. It was right on par with the old 5.0 Mustangs which were considered one of the faster cars back then. That engine is the L98 5.7 liter, and was and still is a torque monster at 325 ft lbs.
In comparison the 1987 M3 produced 195hp and only like 127 ft lbs of torque. The 195hp was very respectable out of a 2.3 litre engine, but lacked torque.
CtheM3go 08-04-2003, 06:36 PM ...175 TQ,

Oh man, that thing would rip - ***rip*** - out of the hole when called to do so, but (as indicated by the HP rating) it just didn't have it up top. I still loved the comfy seats, and given that I was pretty fresh from the Nightrider generation (not to mention having grown up watching Burt Reynolds run Trigger in the Bandit series), I enjoyed the Trans Am immensely.
Plus, it was instrumental in teaching me how (and how NOT) to handle a powerful RWD car. My GTA taught me a lot.

...175 TQ,
Oops I was way off. Thanks, I couldn't find the torque number for the E30. I just remembered it lacked torque and for some reason was thinking it was around the 130 mark.

Yeah, the L98 is a fun engine to have in a car. It's soooo torquie. And back then (when those movies were out) the Trans Am was THE car to have. The 80's killed that, but I feel a second coming will arrise again in the future. I just hope the package is true to the name (unlike the GTO).
