View Full Version : Anybody Interested??? Roof Spoiler / Bumper Filler..

I just got back from breakfast with RANE2001..( what a great guy!! ) I have the roof spoiler and the front bumper filler from his car.. I'll have them duplicated if there's enough response from the board ,otherwise I'm not going to waste my time and money having molds made...I'll just get them repainted and install them..

email from the people who will make them:
If you can get a few people to go in with you or you fund the fabrication on the molds we will do it! We would charge time & materials @ $60.00 per hour. You could save some money if you have a bodyman to make a perfect prototype that we would just have to copy. When your molds were done, they would be yours & than we could wholesale, box, & dropship for you to sell!

So I have a prototype of both parts and I'LL pay for the molds myself depending on the feedback from you guys and gals.. So let me know...This should be a hell of a lot easier to get done then that effen hood that's been sitting in my garage for a year now..

Since I'm in Jersey.... and must have a front plate, the filler part isn't of interest... but the roof spoiler is kinda cool. How does it mount?

-JRW It's held on with adhesive..I have to clean it up a bit , clean out the old adhesive and fit it.. I think 3m tape or silicone should do it..RANE told me it was siliconed on and held tight and never came loose..

Rane told me the roof spoiler was mine! Oh well.

In any event, I'd love to have one if it's easy & cost effective to duplicate.

OK...I'll take the spoiler next week after I clean all of the adhesive out of it and fit it to the car..It sits flush now , but could fit just a bit better for my liking.. Keep you posted ,and will get a price on the finished spoiler minus shipping..

That's what I would like to get on mine one day..one of those hoods! God knows I tried.. I have a spare stock hood , the center NACA Duct , and nobody to take on the louvers for me..( and I went to at least 10 bodyshops , 5 of which I knew the owners personally.) If I could get one of those aftermarket Alpina hoods , it would be so much easier to copy , then to make a prototype from scratch..

So why don't we all pitch in and get one hood and then get the carbon fiber copies made, we have enough member in our E31 group to made it worth while. :cool

Louvers are made with tooling.
Our punch-presses, can make a louvers as long as you want! (progressive tooling)

The height of the louver, determines the tooling...

i think you are gonna have to cut and weld the louver section, as i know a e31 hood will not fit within the side-beams of our punch-press.

one of each for me (spoiler & filler)

OK...I'm dropping off the parts tomorrow and not next week..The adhesive they used to put this spoiler on must be the same as they use for door hinges nowadays.( it's as hard as a rock and I don't want to grind it out and mess this thing up ) So we'll see if they can remove it from the molds they make..I'm pretty sure both of these parts are going to have to be held on by adhesive as the bumper filler is smooth on the backside also , it was screwed in from behind ,but I think the adhesives they have today will work just fine to secure it..Plus this front filler panel is HEAVY so I think the fiberglass copy wil be much lighter.. BTW these parts will be made of fiberglass as I don't think he does Carbon Fibre.. The roof spoiler is glass anyways...

don't think anyone is going to complain about the fiberglass as the cost will be lower, just wonder how durable the filler will be from road rash, you know rock chips and other objects hitting it from the road.

Well I can tell ya that the one I have now has chips in it..I would just use a good paint hardener or imron to paint it..

Ok here it is........ I just dropped off the roof spoiler to get molds made and a prototype will be done in 2 weeks..When he first saw the spoiler he told me that it was made poorly , and it is IMO.( very wavy ) So he has to do some work to it before he makes the molds..These are going to cost $250.00 plus shipping just so everyone knows.. So who's in and who's out?? So far I'm into it for $750.00 out of my pocket!! He has to make the spoiler 1/8 inch longer so the fit is better and it will be test fitted to my car to make sure it's perfect or he'll start over from scratch..I didn't do the bumper filler yet as I don't have the money for molds to be made for that yet ( maybe when I go for the test fit I'll have the funds , maybe.) Rob's a great guy and his shop was full of Muscle Cars being restored , even a '56 Nomad.. So when it was all said and done and we were sitting in his office you know what I asked him after seeing all of the hoods he makes.. I told him I have a OEM hood and a center duct that he can have.. He said ," email me pics & bring me the hood "...:alright IT'S ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME!!!!!! Plus I had a Miata racing me on the turnpike. We all know how that turned out..We got to the toll booth and all they wanted were phone pics of the 8 , so Like a nice guy I sat there and let them shoot a few...

The roof spoiler is done.. I just have to take the car up and make sure it's what we want , and the fit is right , as I'm sure it will be.. I'm getting the hood picked up by Rob who's going to take it back to his shop and get started on the molds for the one we've all been waiting for..I'll take detailed pics of the spoiler and will get shipping quotes for overseas (Harry) and will pm the details.. I'm going to start off with 15 to be made and see how it goes..So let me know who wants in.. pm me addresses and I'll let you know what the shipping will be. I can get boxes and tons of bubble wrap so there will be no handling fee ( I won't play that ebay game $15 for boxing something up ) , just actual shipping charges..
