I have a 1997 840ci. Can anyone tell me where the micro filter is and how best to change it?

Thanks

Top cenrter of your fire wall, Soon as you open the hood, Directly behind the top rear of the engine, 3 screws, Remove the cover and pull them out, Wipe or vacum inside the housing before replacing, 15 minutes...

Taken when I made the desinfection close to the TIS-procedure of BMW - no words required...

I just changed out my filters. Wasn't a real big priority after I learned of there existence until I saw them . They looked like they were spray painted black, no joke :nono. I replaced them, but did not think of cleaning out the area, seems like a good thing to do...

One quick question. Where can I get that microfilter. The dealer?

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but...

8Harry8: What are the hoses to the throttle bodies and the rear of the engine for?

??? after you spray that stuff in there what happens to it. Does it evaporate or do you have to some how wipe it out? Does it dry and blow the crap out into the rest of the car??

i went to a dealer to replace my filters as well. they ran the VIN number and told me that my car was fitted with a "tear gas suppression system." I thought the guy was pulling my leg until I read the print out on the options my car was equipped with. He told me that some of the 850 cars did in fact have this, in a normal car when you introduce the recirculation system it only filters out 80% of he particulates. In my car, it's 100% (so I'm told) and a completely closed system. So keep those filters clean! I guess I'm safe if I wonder into a mass protest...I'm a few years late here in Seattle, the WTO riots are long past.

The system the guy was tellin' you about is called AUC - google it :)

And Harry, how is that Motip spray? It says it has a subtle scent to it...how subtle is it? I don't want my car smellin' like febreeze or other air "fresheners"

Discreet, really! :)

Much more discreet than the other solutions.

Thanks Harry for the update!

The solid foam brakes after about 30 minutes and leaves the 8 as a liquid on the same way as the condensation water of the aircondition.
