View Full Version : Philips based HID conversion kit
m3power 07-30-2003, 11:51 PM Just want to see if you guys are interested in a little GB on HID conversion kits.
Xenon Factory HID Conversion Kit is the true "plug-and-play" kit and features genuine Philips bulbs and ballasts. Our kits also come with 3 year warranty on all components.
More info at http://www.xenonfactory.com/products/hid/philips.htm
The regular "already low" prices are:
4100K – 399 USD
6000K – 499 USD
Our price is already the lowest in the industry for genuine Philips bulbs and ballasts. If we can get enough buyers, we can work on the price a little bit more.
Any takers?
-----------------------------------------------------
here is the staged pricing structure:
5 people:
4,100K - $390 shipped
6,000K - $490 shipped
10 or more people:
4,100K - $365 shipped
6,000K - $465 shipped
as a reference, original prices are:
4,100K - $399 + $20 shipping = $419 shipped
6,000K - $499 + $20 shipping = $519 shipped
these are great prices consider our original prices are already very good. that is a savings about $55 for 10 buyers.
payments have to be either money order or check (need to be cleared before shipping). for credit card payments, please add 3%
------------------------------------------------
let's just assume we will get 10 and you will get the 10 people price since more than likely we will :)
if you are 100% in, please email me at info@xenonfactory.com with the following information:

I'm in for some 4100K !
How low can we go !!!???
the pricing is depending on the number of people that interested. :evil2 keep in mind our kits use genuine Philips bulbs and ballasts, not all kits that claim so actually use genuine parts.
we will set up a "staged pricing structure" soon, eg. 10, 11-15, 15+
Do you have 5000K?
yes, we can get them, however, philips only makes 2 different hid bulb color temperatures: 4,100k and 6,000k. the 5,000k bulb is a blue tinted 4,100k done by a 3rd party. we do not recommend this bulb as it has a slightly higher failure rate than 4,100k and 6,000k. with that in mind, the failure rate of 5,000k kits is still very very low compare to other kits on the market.
KaOTiKM3 07-31-2003, 01:23 PM I can't wait for your pricing, that will determine who I go with...but as far as the genuine philips components & bulbs...I was referring my pricing to Supremepowerparts.com and as far as I know they used genuine parts for their kits...let us know the pricing!! :evil2

KaOTiKM3 08-01-2003, 09:03 AM Yes you can get H1. No you don't need to wire splice, just install the kit and plug it in to your ZkW's.
///Dom 08-01-2003, 09:06 AM My count, based on posted responses so far: 8 people!!! Just as long as everyone follows through with payment, we're almost there!

m3power 08-01-2003, 10:46 AM Will you accept Paypal payments?
i guess you missed this in my previous post:
payments have to be money order or check (need to be cleared before shipping). for credit card payments, please add 3%.
it seems like paypal will charge fees to a merchant/business account either the fund was from a bank account or a credit card.
Im interested! But can I get H1 bulbs? And whay exactly do you mean by the conversion kit is the true "plug-and-play"? If I have ZKWs w/h1 bulbs would I need to do any wire splicing?
by true "plug-and-play", we meant there is NO wire splicing at all. depeding on the headlight housing, if the headlight housing is "closed" such as euro ellipsoids, you will need to drill a hole at the back cover for the bulb wires to pass through. for us stock headlight housing, this is not necessary since the back of the headlight is "open". Installation is very simple and straight forward.
Will this kit work with a Z3?
yes, with stock u.s. spec. z3 headlights, you will need a HID conversion kit with 9006 based bulbs.
tkim3 08-01-2003, 10:51 AM I'm torn as well as to which to get. For the 4100K is there a change in color at all if viewed at an angle? Or is it more pure white regardless of angle?
Im confused on the whole HID lighting stuff. I just bought some depo ellipsoids. What all do i need xtra with this kit if i was gonna buy it? Is there extra stuff I need to make it work? I think the depo comes with H1 bulbs already. Thanks.

4100k outputs pure white and all HID will have a slight color shift depending on the angle you are view at and the housing you are using.

only thing you need is our hid conversion kit for h1 based bulbs. it will come with everything you need to do the conversion.
What's been your experience with the "low beam" failure with this kit?
from our past experience, some people get it and some don't. however, if you do get a "low beam failure", i will send you few links that teaches you how to get rid of it.

So the actual HID includes everything or do I need to also order an additional add on? What kind of lights are on a 1998 323 IS stock? 9005/6's? And with my ellipsoids i now have a H1 bulb I believe. Do I buy a kit that basically fits on the original OEM headlght plug? Sorry for the dumb questions but I never seen an HID kit and not to schooled on how it works and installed etc..
ex10psi 08-01-2003, 02:49 PM this HID kit will workwith the HELLA set up for E36 M3's. I am considering buying the HELLA with angel eyes, not sure if they're H1 or H7 or whatever but really like the HELLA angel eyes.
Will this HID conversion fit right in to the HELLA kit and the angel eyes will work without any issues?

no problem. keep the questions coming and we want to make sure you buy what you really want!
our kits includes everything you will need. e36 uses 9006 in its low beam. if you have euro ellipsoids with h1 bulbs, you will need the h1 kit.
the installation will not involve your original headlight plugs. the installation is very straight forward and the detailed instruction is included. if you wish to take a look the instruction before you make up your mind, feel free to email me.

just make sure the bulb style you use in your Hella lights and you shouldn't have a problem.

like tbt323 said, newer bmw models with factory hid system run at 4100k ~ 4300k range. because of the projectors, they look a bit bluer than 4100k in reflector lenses.
here are some pictures to help you decide:

i just installed my depo ellipsoids in my car last night. What a tight ass fit overall. I dont see how u can change a bulb out when they blow??? Its impossible to get to the driver side bulbs with an ECIS intake in place. Im confused where to mount all the HID components. There is like no room in the bay on the driver side. Anyone have pics of engine bays with philip setups? I wanna see a pic if u got one.

i had the same issue when i put in my zkw as well. it will be a lot easier to install the driver side headlight if you take the ECIS filter off first.
actually, i stick (with velcro) the driver side ballast on the ECIS headshield under the filter and it works great. it is actually pretty roomy down there :)

so correct me if i'm wrong..
but the hid kit will plug in directly..??

i'm planning on getting ellipsoids sooner or later.
this will require some type of wiring harness correct..??

actually for both stock and ellipsoids, this hid kit will be a simple plug and play install. however, they use different bulb bases so you might want to put that into consideration.
fffreshkope 08-10-2003, 02:10 AM oh okay.
so what is required for an h1 application..??
h7 application..??
and what were you saying about..
drilling holes..??
sorry for all the questions.
i want to make this as painless as possible for me.
m3power..
check your e-mail..!!
thanks.

all the required parts for either H1, H7 or 9006 applications are included in this kit such as:
.: Philips bulb x 2
.: Philips ballast x 2
.: Properly insulated wiring harness
.: High quality connectors
.: Aluminum mounting plates, zip ties and hardware
.: Industrial strength Velcro for 'easy removal' mounting option
.: Detailed, easy to follow, illustrated instructions
as for hole drilling, it is only needed for "closed" headlights such as euro ellipsoids. e36 stock headlights are open at the rear so there is no drilling required.
i will reply your email now. :awink:
fffreshkope 08-10-2003, 10:57 PM oh okay i think i get it.
so if i buy a kit for my stock headlights..
can i use the same kit later..?
when i upgrade to euro ellipsoids..??
Sent payment via paypal M3power for $375.95 for 4100K H7's!!

unfortunately, no, you can't use the same kit on stock headlights and euro ellipsoids. stock headlights (9006) and most ellipsoids (H1) use difference bulb bases.

To all participants,
I believe all of you have been contacted regarding to the GB payment info last Friday.
when you send in the money order, please make sure it is an "international" money order. US Postal money order can't be cashed outside of US so we can't take that. Money order from your bank should be ok.
thanks.
KaOTiKM3 08-11-2003, 08:29 AM I will send you your money on wednesday for the 6000k kit Alex...

damn.
that is unfortunate.
i think i'll have to back out of this one then.
but i'll double check with umnitza first.
maybe he knows a way to make the same kit work.
if i'm not mistaken..
his kits work both ways.
with a wiring harness..??
but your kits are cheaper.
i'll get back to you.
thanks.

umnitza wont be able to help u either. You dont understand that our factory U.S. headlight has a different hole/opening and only a 9006 bulb will fit while EURO ellipsoids takes a different bulb size housing and they are either a H1 or H7. Let me give you a better example. Can you plug a regular house lightbulb into an outside flood light housing? No because both bulbs are different sizes and each bulb wont thread correctly in the sockets provided. Even though they run the same power out of the house. Same goes with your car. The actual opening is cut different to fit a certain model lightbulb housing. M3powers kit will have a PNP wire harness as well as umnitza. Its absically going from a H1 or H7 connector back to your factory 9006 connector. The PNP is just the wiring harness for the bulbs. It has nothing to do with actually trying to fit the bulb into the hole.
fffreshkope 08-11-2003, 02:24 PM shit.

Our stock headlights are POS. It would be a big waste of money if you went ahead and bought an HID kit for your stock housing. Your better off buying both a new ellipsoid headlight and HID's. DO it right the first time around. I got my ellipsoids from www.procarparts.com and here is a direct link
http://www.procarparts.com/store-detail.asp?sku=BMW%2DE36%2D9298%2DEUCL%2DBKG1%2DPJ 2X
and screw all the haters who will say they are inferior to ZKW's. They cost only $182 compared to about $380. You decide. They are pretty good quality IMHO. Ten times better than stock. But not worth and extra $200 for ZKW's. Extra money could be spent on these HID's. If money is no big deal to you then get ZKW's. They are a german OEM part. And are excellent quality. For about $220 you can get these lights with angel eyes built in as well. Look around at the site and you will see them.
If you wanna see pics and read info on the depo ellipsoids from procarparts go here.

I purchased the model that had ellipsoids/angels eyes and new clear corner lights for $260 and they come with a PNP wire harness.

Chugger 08-14-2003, 11:31 PM I have depo's with the angel eyes and was wondering are the hid kits usually used for the high or low beams?
What would you recommend 4100k or 6000k
if i go 4100k now i might go 6000k in the fogs later or vice versa
thanks

usually hid are used in low beam since that is the light you will use for night time driving. i think 4100k and 6000k are both good choices and it is a personal perference thing.
the Philips 4,100K bulb produces a very pure and bright white light. the Philips 6,000K Ultinon bulb emits a white light with a slight blue/purple hue and still retains all the HID advantages.
however, you might want to put the same color temperature kit in your low beam and fogs, so the color will "match" each other. :)

you are probably the frist one who gets the kit!
yes, they are genuine philips bulbs and ballasts. we were very impressed with the packaging the first time we see the kit as well. polarion is the kit that stands out from all other philips based kits and that was the reason we decided to carry them at the first place.
hurry up, put them out and show us some pics!!! ;)

i just sent them out. check your email now. you will have it by this thursday. perfect timing for your weekend project!
A little off topic but what ever happened to the 8/15/03 law that was gonna make selling hid's illegal to sell. So was that all BS? I never heard anything else about it.
magnetic1 08-19-2003, 09:47 AM It isnt a new "law" or "ban"... it is enforcement of regulations already in place... go visit http://www.hidforum.com under General for more information.
I doubt Xenon Factory will be able to support their warranty if the gov't cracks down on them too.... you will see quality aftermarket HID kits slowly dissapear and crap Ebay kits flourish... better get these while you can... I don't think many HID vendors would be willing to take a $5k/occurance fine.

Umnitza made it seem like that on 8/15/03 no one will be able to sell aftermarket HID kite and had everyone scrambling to buy kits. I thought it was BS. I understand its an enforcement of the regulation thats in place but I think he made everyone think that on 8/15 everyone had to stop selling kits which isnt the case yet.

KaOTiKM3 08-20-2003, 11:17 AM hey alex, how come you guys don't package the xenon bulbs in some kind of plastic casing, it seems that leaving them exposed in the styrofoam housing might have a greater chance of being damaged, just a thought...otherwise good product, hope to get them in tommorrow.

the styrofoam actually packed the bulbs VERY well and tight. so far, there is no reported issue with it but we will suggest that to polarion. thank you.

low beam failure message on obd happens on some cars and some never see it. i guess you are the lucky one ;)
