Hey guys,

I've read a couple of threads about how awesome Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is for cleaning leather, so I bought some when i was in New York City last week, since it's not available in Dubai.
Let me just say this, its astonishing how my interior came out.
The previous owner neglected the interior, and I finally got around to cleaning it up.
it's like brand new, especially the steering wheel, it's amazing.
I spent just over 4 hours on her, and it was time well spent.

The steps I took are as follows.

1. Get a bucket of water, and Magic Eraser sponge (I used 9 throughout the whole process, but this will obviously vary by car size).
2. Dip the sponge in the water, and squeeze out the excess water.
3. Rub on desired spot (don't rub too hard, let the sponge do the work).
4. Rinse sponge in bucket when it gets dirty.
5. I changed sponges after the one I was using began to fall apart (this is just what I did, I'm not sure if you should change them sooner).
6. Once finished with the sponge, wipe over the area that you just cleaned with a damp towel.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 as neccesary.
8. Make sure you condition your cleaned leather with leather conditioner, otherwise the leather will crack. I used Amor-All Leather Cleaner/Conditioner Wipes, just because that's all that is available to me out here, even though there are better products out there, especially in the States (you can either use a product that shines the leather, or one that does not, I chose the latter, just because I hate shiny leather, it looks cheap to me).

Alright, done with the steps, on to the pics.

The "before" pics are first, followed by the "after" pics.

This is why I never wash my car, only a couple days after I wash Her, this is what She looks like.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the pics/write-up.
This is something you should definately do if you have a couple hours to spare.
It cost me roughly $12 for the sponges, and $4 for the leather wipes.

Magic Eraser is a wonderful product. Good to see you had great results too. Be very careful with using M.E. on died soft colors like tans and beige. Too much rubbing will result in color loss and fade.

I've had good results from Magic Eraser, too... Except, when I used it on my leather (it's 14 year old leather:shifty) it pulled some of the colour out :(. It just looks a little faded where I tried to remove a scuff with it.
Other than that little mishap, I've had excellent results. Cleaned up my steering wheel and shiftknob and just in general made everything feel fresh again.:redspot

Anyone got any ideas on how to remove scuffs from leather without re-dying?:devillook

Magic Erasers work by cutting through the top coating of finish on the leather which is why they always appear to have such great results. This is fine if you are going to replace the finish (ie. during restoration) but for general cleaning will only cause long term damage.
Magic Erasers are very fine melamine resin that act like a very fine sandpaper.

Looks perfect, I am just trying to get some from ebay.
Should I use it with multipurpose car cleaner for better result? And does it make any decolourisation on beige colour?

Actually I just let the magic eraser do the work. Very light pressure and saw no damage to the leather after. Threw some leather conditioner on it and...damn, my steering wheel looks absolutely NEW! The results are incredible. Thanks for the tip man!:buttrock

Becareful when using it in the future, but I'm sure you were to begin with.
You think thats great, I used them on my dove grey headliner and was amazed how well it worked. Downside is all the eraser debris but better then causing it to sag.

As long as you don't scrub too hard, think wiping a computer monitor.
If you scrub too hard you can take off a layer of the outer coating.
Clean the seats with a leather cleaner that doesn't condition and then use them, I realized it left me with less instances where I was tempted to rub a little harder (;)). And don't waste your time on ebay, you can go to cvs, eckerd, king kullen, any where with a cleaning section and buy them. They also have extra strength pads where one side is grooved for better "grabbing" of dirt.
