So I got a ticket in NY the other day. The ticket is for Speeding (gen 101). But when I go to type in the ticket online it says there is no record of the ticket and re check it. Im not going to fight it because I will lose. Just want to know how much the ticket is, how many points on my NJ license and how I can pay for it. Thanks.

it will depend on how much over were going over the speed limit.

the fines are graduated, im assuming you weren't going 31+ over, or else you'd be in jail and car would now be owned by the state of NY.

not really sure if you'll recieve points on your NJ license, but your insurance company will definately hit you for it!

It depends on the cop. Some hand in thier Summonses at the end of the week due to professional courtsey. Like if you knew a cop, you would have him get in contact with the one who wrote you the sumons and maybe make it dissapear. If it is in the system and you do know someone on the job have them talk to eachother or pray the cop misses the court date. All charges dropped no fine etc.

Same thing happened to me, you have to wait about a month for the ticket to get into the system.

Wait, I have a month for the ticket to go into the system, and then another month to pay it? I called the county where I got pulled over in and they were clueless.

Orange County on I87. I was passing a tractor trailor. I was in the right lane and moved into the left lane as soon as I did we passed a cop. I couldn't see him becasue I was behind that big dumpster...

that sucks... NYS troopers are the scum of the earth. They're especially hard on out of state drivers.

Huh? That makes no sense and from what I did get from it is completely untrue. ALL cops hand their tickets in and even by some SLIM chance the cop does miss the court date, they just reschedule. In NYS, the cop has to miss 3 court dates in order for the ticket to get thrown out.

I beg to differ.

BTW

NJ drivers are by far the worst there are on the roads. Spending 6,000 miles on the road a month has led me to that conclusion.

OP

i got pulled for 88 in a 40 by an MTA cop on a bridge.

so no again GimmieSumMo you will not lose your car in this state.

by law a cop can arrest you and have your shit towed for 31+ unless you are a dick and dont apologize that will be the case or the cop is a huge dick

OP

YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE! NY points do not transfer to NJ licenses.

and it may take a while for it to show up online, sometimes a month if not more just apply to get e-mail notification of when it does

i guess we'll just have to disagree then... my living in NY for 25 years driving in NY for 11 of those years, i have a different opinons and experiences.

I've gotten pulled over for 98 on the VZ bridge by NYC highway patrol... my mom had to pick me up.

I agree that NJ drivers are the worst ever, but when you see your buddies car repainted in purple with yellow stripes you'll think different.

OP for the speeding ticket... you'll recieve atleast 2 points on your NJ drivers licence for a speeding violation in another state participating in this compact agreement:

dood...

I dont know how much the ticket is.

from what I remember if its just a regular speeding ticket, there should be a schedule of fines and surcharges on the back. if its a summons you'll have to appear in court to plea and pay it.

you learn something new everyday

in NY the only time you get out of state points is if you get a ticket in quebec canada
how weird is that :confused

regarding points, i don't think u'll get the same number of points on your nj license. since the traffic offense took place in nyc, i think for your nj dmv it shows up as just 1 point, but on your separate nyc record it shows up as the regular number of points.

really? tell that to the NJ DMV, because a last year I got a speeding ticket in BK(68 in a 45 zone), and I have 6 points on my abstract from that ticket.....

so can I have you write them a letter or something to let them know that those points shouldn't be there, because you said that the points don't transfer??........

i got all 6 points from one NY ticket:(

Still no word with my ticket. WTF? Ive been told that I will recieve 2 points on my NJ license due to the infraction. But anyone from NY, have you gotten speeding (gen 101) ticket before? The ticket was a piece of paper the cop printed out from his car.

Wrong. I have Family members who are NYPD and if they get a call from another cop, the Ticket dissapears if it wasnt handed in at the end of thier tour. Like i said in my original post SOME cops do that not all. And yes they can reschedule up to 3x only if it is done prior to the court date. If there was nothing rescheduled before the date and the cop misses court, the charges are dropped.

You have to send in the ticket and plead guilty (if your not going to fight it). Then they send you the bill. Its not like NJ the fines are not set ahead of time and the local surcharge is variable.

Ok so I fill the paper out as not guilty, then they send me a bill that I can pay online? Or threw the mail?

Paying a ticket is not going to change the fact that you apparently were cough speeding. Unfortunately, The run in NY is not about to obeying the law but rather about getting money out of the car's owner. :mad

You should fight this ticket does not matter if they have you on camera.
-Read you ticket again. Go ahead read it one more time and put attention to EVERY detail. :)

I had win tickets even when a camera had take my license plate several time.
