Well I ended up going to camp and not to HRP this weekend. I had until Friday afternoon to decide.
We picked up L&L Friday evening (already raining, bad sign), headed out to Swanzy Kaaawa. Lo and behold, overcast, slight rain, but no downpour. Forecast was for monsoon at 9pm, but we figured we'd check it out and play it by ear.
9pm. Are those stars? w00h00! But about a mile offshore there was lighining. Ahh, just a passing shower. We had a canopy and huddled the tents around it (under the hala tree, by the naupaka).
As I was sleeping, must have been around 3 or 4 am, I woke to the sound of thunder. Like, full-on wind, lighning above our head, rain pounding the tent. The sides of the tent were doing this: http://www2.hawaii.edu/~roberto/goodness.gif
It was exciting. Luckily my tent only leaked at the bottom seam (where it curls up by the door zipper) so I was 99% dry. :)
I didn't charge the digicam battery, so no pics :(
We left Saturday, had lunch back at headquarters (friend's house in Maunawili).
