Third Pole For Turner Motorsport and BMW In 2003

Infineon/Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, CA - 07/26/2003 - Bill Auberlen used his home track experience and first hand knowledge of track conditions to break the track record and put his Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW on the pole for tomorrow's Speed Touring Car race at Infineon/Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California. In the process, he gained additional points to boost his lead in the Touring Car Championship.

Auberlen makes his home in Hermosa Beach, California. Countless laps at Sears Point, piloting many BMWs, aided him in his flying laps this afternoon to clinch his second straight Touring Car pole. Auberlen also benefited from this morning's Speed GT qualifying session in which he also won the pole for BMW in an M3. This is Auberlen's second straight weekend in which he has won pole positions in both Touring Car and GT in the same weekend. At the last race at Road Atlanta he won from the Touring Car pole in his Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i.

Will Turner in a similar BMW 325i qualified further back in the field due to traffic on the twisty 2.52-mile circuit. Turner, along with another BMW competitor hooked up for their flying laps but were caught out by slower traffic. Turner is looking forward to tomorrow's race to renew his charge to the front.

Auberlen extended his lead in the Touring Car Championship with today's pole. It is his third pole position of the year after scoring fastest times at Sebring and Road Atlanta.

Tomorrow's round five event of the Speed Touring Car Championship lights off at 3:10pm Pacific Time (7:10pm Eastern) from Sears Point. The Speed World Challenge website will carry Live Timing and Scoring on their website, www.world-challenge.com. You can also see results after the race at www.tmsracing.com. Series sponsor The Speed Channel will begin their broadcasts of this race on Saturday, August 2 at 4pm Eastern Time.
