I was on my way out to a buddies house and at the light up ahead I can see this really cool looking red car, and as I close in on the light I can see that it is a mazda RX8. I pass through the light and realize he is turning left onto the street I am on (instant adrenaline rush). So imediatley I slow to about 25mph to wait for him( the speed limit was 45).
After cresting a large hill I look in my rearview to see this bright red car come flying up over the hill chasing after me. So way play cat and mouse for about 4 or 5 minutes and finally traffic clears out in front of us. He quickly pulls into the lane to the left of me, we are doing about 30mph. He gives me the nod and we are off. We run through 2nd really fast and I have him by about 1/2 a car. I shift into third and I am WOT, and slowly pulling on this guy. As I go into 4th I now have him by about 1 1/2 cars, and am pulling hard. Not more then a couple seconds into 4th I have to shut it down for traffic, but what a great race.
I talked to the guy for a minute after the race and he wanted to know what I had done to my car, so I rattled of this nice long list, to which he replies "I just bought the car and hour ago." Overall really good looking car, the engine sounds great and they are pretty quick. What a RUSH!!!!!:D

210 or 250, sounds like he raced the 250 Hp version. I like those cars, they're pretty light, quick and they look good. It's unfortunte they decided to ditch the turbo though. For that it's FD all the way. :boink

Raced after owning for an hour? Talk about a quick break in period...

Nice kill. Racing right after buying the car probably isnt the best way to break it in.

HAHA ...I LOVE IT!

Good story. they are mid 14 sec cars from what the Mags have gotten so far.

Ya, I guess those aren't as fast as some would think. My buddy in a GSR( I/H/E,cams,intake manifold) beat one twice the other day. If you guys had've kept going you would have beaten him worse. Nice kill

Actually, they're thinking about developing the turbo version in 2005.

Now that would be a sick puppy...

Ouch, sick way to break-in a car. He'll pay for that later...

247 HP and 159 Torque. :laugh

I dont think these are going to be winning in the 1/4 mile any time soon.

does the RX8 use a rotary engine like previous RXs?

mihalis

yeah, the new RX-8's use rotary engine, but they are not turbocharged. Nice kill, the RX-8 sounds pretty quick from this race, I never expected it to keep up that well with a M3.

I tend to underestimate the distance I can put between car's during races, but this is only to make sure I am not over exagerating.:) By the time I let off on the gas, I had a full view of him in my rearview, so maybe I was a little further ahead then I thought:dunno . Though the RX8 might not be all that fast, they sure do look cool.:D

rx8 is a waste of a car, not really a sports car, not really a sedan.

good kill and let that be a lesson to them.

Nice kill man!!!

Still wishing I was there to catch it all on video...

Judging by the way I gained ground on him, I think you did underestimate the carlengths you put on him. Just wait till cams...we won't even be close anymore. :(

The RX-8 may not have it in a straight line, but if its like the Rx-7's then it should be a very good road racing car. I haven't driven it, but I bet it is silky smooth and balanced <-- Thats the important part!

I believe the RX-8s only come in a 250HP/6 speed rotary engine form. I didn't know there was an automatic for it either. Either way, they're fun cars.

The RX-series cars need to be owned and maintained by someone who knows the specific needs of the car. Rotary engine's have quirks that is almost like a personality.

That being said, they tend to be pretty quick cars. The rotary engine design is a jet engine design. Because the rotors spin as opposed to pistons pushing and pulling, the mechanical rev limit is very high.

I was afraid to race on until I read this post. Time to go hunting... :buttrock

From my experience, rotary engines aren't that quirky at all! They are the simplest engines out there, but people are too afraid to work on them because they are different. The rotary engines, typically, have only 3 moving parts. Two rotors and an eccentric shaft. Compare that to a piston engine. Plus the rotary engine is so much smaller! If you want more proof of how superior this engine is, check out the racing history. 787B is all I have to say. If people are interested in knowing more about the engine:

I still love my M though :buttrock

You have no reason to be scared of an RX-8 unless your a 3 series. With no turbo's they have no torque :( and we all know what torque does. The only real thing to fear for now is FD's (RX-7s) or RX-8 with a turbo (if someone has the money for the kit).
Boost can be a scary thing :).

I enjoyed this very much. I know how my engine works but all that extra info was very interesting to read. Cool stuff!
