View Full Version : Cooper S vs. Modded Integra

After driving my M3 all day I decide to jump in the Cooper to get some chow.

To get on the main road you have to wait at a two lane stop light that turns left onto the main road. The modded integra has the inside lane on me. I can see he has an a-pillar. He has a wing, body kit, and stickers all over his windows. I can see Greddy, HKS, and some others so I'm thinking crap, this guy is boosted.

Light turns green. He has the inside lane so you have to cut it short and can't get much speed, you'll just spin your tires. That's why I'm in the outside lane. Tactics baby. I get a running start because I can go straight for a ways because it turns onto a four lane road.. I build speed, hit the trun, nail the apex, and power out. I easily busted him.

Fast forward. After he goes flying by (I let off long before that). We hit a light. Side by side. Nice. I'm thinking I'm going to get my ass handed to me. The light turns green. I get a good launch! I'm already 1/2 car length ahead. I fly through 1st and 2nd. I like the next two gears. In the Cooper S, around 4k rpm, the engine starts to come alive. I pull all the way to redline. Nail 4th - pull to redline. All the while I gain maybe a 1/4 length on him - almost a full car length. I'm coming up on my turn quickly so I hit the brakes ( I really have to get a brake upgrade. Although the stock binders are adequate, I like to brake late and hard, so I really need to do something about that).

All in all I did better than I thought I would. This car isn't a dragger - it REALLY shines in the twisties though.

Not only is your car cuter than his, but also faster and better made. The Ultimate win.

You have to watch out for those Integras man, I got killed by one in NYC one time. I was killing him in traffic (in & out) and once we hit an open gap, I was floored in 4th and he murdered me! :( He took about 12 cars on me in about 15 secs! :devillook He was running w/ NOS and had other bolt ons as well. He was about 6 cars behing and ended up 6 cars ahead...I never had anybody walk on me like that before. You know what's funny though, originally, the Integra was racing a Mini Cooper S and we both left the S way behind! :)

Like I said. I don't drag/street race this car. It's a daily driver that handles extremely well. This car isn't fast, but it's quick for a 1.6L SCed engine. If you rev it out and let boost build it gets moving.

It absolutely shines in the twisties. I embarrass a lot of unsuspecting people in the bends. My buddy in his 95 M3 couldn't keep up with me on some of the more twisty country roads out here. Of course, when we would hit the straights he's catch right back up.

The guy in the Integra was really winding it out. My window was down and I could hear him flogging it. I got the jump and knew how to drive my car.

I'm sure he was more into the looks rather than the performance aspect since I pretty much kept him at bay.

If I were in my M3 I would have destroyed him....

I raced a turbo integra in my 300zx about two years ago. Off the start I smoked him by about 2 car lenghts because of a perfect launch. Now, I did not know he was boosted. I thought that I killed him, but all he was doing was spinning wheels, because he could not put the power to the ground.

At about 100mph, he flew by me with about a 20mph difference!!!

That was when my Z was running 13.1 on the bottle!!! WTF.

Like I've said before - it doesn't matter what kind of car, it matters what was done to it:)

No way dude. It was an Integra LS. I can say this surely..... cuz I know he could beat an LS Integ, they're just 1.8 dual cam. It wasn't a GSR with bolt ons......he'd get strapped. And it was definetly not an ITR either, he'd get murdered.....unless it was some no-driving dumbass behind the wheel. But anyways, nice kill dude, I like those Mini-S's

After seeing many bolt-on GSRs and Cooper S's in action, I'd say it'd be an even match. Most bolt-on GSRs are lucky to run high 14's, and the Cooper S really shines with its broad powerband.

Ahhhh....nice to see Copper S kill stories. Nice Kill.....maybe the next time after you install your hypothetical Cooper Works Upgrade, may the results be the same??? Nice kill though.

I'm not going to do the Works upgrade. I really don't think it's worth what they are charging.

I can get the pulley change, ECU, exhaust, and intake for way less than what the Work's kit goes for. The only reason I would go the JCW route is for warranty reasons.

My Mini Dealer warrants ALL upgrades if installed by them. So, I can order whatever I want and have it installed. I'll pay a premium on the installation, but it will still come out less.

There are guys that have the above mods - and a little tweaking - that are pulling 13.76 1/4 mile times. They dyno around 215 hp.

Not too shabby for a little car.

To be honest with you I don't remember the color. It was on I-95 South on a Monday that was a holiday right after you pass the tolls for the North side. It was during the morning too, I was going to the city for the day to go and see the NYC auto show. I really don't think it was white or a Type-R though.

I've read, and put to use, your tips that you gave up above.

I can launch her pretty well now. My tires are balding (I push her hard) so I'm starting to get a lot more wheel slip. I've found her optimal shifting points and as long as I hit them well I can really get moving.
