Wow, what a turn-out, 40+ cars at Barber Motorsports Park. Of course Vintage Cars racing had a lot more but, to see that many Bimmers haulilng ass around the track is such a thrill.....

Should have stopped by and introduced yourself. I hopped in and co-drove with my dad in the enduro. We were in the Blue/White E36 M3.

Well, Racer I was up in the tower helping w/ scoring.
I had to work on Saturday, but I came back out on Sunday.
"M-life" it was $10/day unless you were a BMWCCA member.
Racer, I've got the fever now.....Now I want to kick my wife out of my E36 and make it a trailer queen. Maybe a few driver's schools and a lot more money, I might be next to yall some day soon.

Bryan,
How do you like Barber now that you've driven it? How does it compare to Road Atlanta?

Mixed Impressions. Amazing facilities. The "Augusta" of race courses if you will.

The track is interesting. Very Mid-Ohio"ish" since it's pretty technical and has some very interesting elevation changes. We were the fastest car there, and we only saw 118 mph on the straight...so it's definitely a track where lower hp cars can compete with bigger hp cars.

Personally, I really like the track, but I came away a bit sour because our car just didn't feel right. We were right in-between gears. The slowest corners were too slow for 2nd, but bogged in 3rd...and we never even used 5th gear. We would have needed a 3.91 or even a 4.10 (instead of a 3.73) to really get the car moving properly out of the slow corners and down the straights. The bogging in 3rd resulted in a car that plowed out of the slow corners since you couldn't use the throttle to steer it around, no matter how much trail-braking you did into the entry.

It's a great track, but requires a very different setup than what we've worked towards for tracks like Road Atlanta, Roebling, Sebring, and VIR. Definitely worth a visit, and a blast to drive in most any car. Most of my "problems" stem from wanting to be faster since it was a competitive environment. Should be great for DE's no matter what your setup is.

Does anyone know of any in-car video from the Barber track that has been posted for download on the Internet? I would love to start learning the track.

Thanks in advance.

Here are a few:

Looks like his lap times are around 1:50. Not too bad. Line seems to be pretty solid. For reference, the fastest club racers were under 1:40 this past weekend. Dad ran the lap of the weekend in qualifying at a 1:37.

I would have some video, but the white balance never would work correctly on the video camera all weekend. Everything out the windshield was whited out, and the interior was perfect...couldn't get it to work correctly, even when I set the white balance manually. I've never had that happen. :dunno

Bryan, Scott told me how fast your were this weekend. He said your dad had been out there for a while, you showed up jumped in the car and bested him right away. Impressive since you had never seen the track before. I can't wait to get there at the end of August.

Scott called me Friday night boo hooing about his misfortune:( I talked to him again this morning and his car's futre is still up in air right now, even talked of selling off the chassis but I don't think he'll go through with it, at least I'm hoping he doesn't. get with me about what I pmed you about last week.
