Def, et al...

What was the last one like? What can be expected? Any tips for maximum enjoyment?

I did Tracquest in June and got 320+ miles in over 2 days. More track time than I knew what to do with. :D Road Atlanta is serious fun. If you're a track n0ob, be prepared to get hooked.

Thanks!

September Road Atlanta (http://www.peachtreebmwcca.org/dschool/index.asp)

I'm in. Adam Nitti is in. C'mon you slags.

[edit] I read everything I could find. It looks like there is only a tech inspection before the event. So, just use common sense and prep the car for the track? No need for a shop inspection and sign-off?

I'm definitely going, and I believe Micah is as well!

It was great! My new Konis made a huge difference.

I'll be there in Sept.

You need a shop inspection. Take it to David Harrison in Alpharetta, he's the head tech inspector for the club. Plus he's a school sponser.

Where did it say I need a shop inspection?

I read the whole BMWCCA thing, they only mentioned a tech inspection in the morning.

You sent me a .pdf form before, I still have that... but I did not see it at the BMWCCA website for the september event...

What was it like?

There were some cars. They drove around. A few spun out. T-shirts were handed out. Return trips were made.

WRONG! We got Fin' coffee mugs! :D

I think I'm going to use mine as a pint glass - just need to JB Weld a handle on and it'll be ready for action!

Yea, the last event was nice. Track conditions were good, but my brakes took a beating.

I'm still on the fence as to whether to sign up or not. I need to hear some convincing arguments. Although it will likely be my last chance to go on track until next summer - so I don't know why I'm reluctant. I'm thinking it's the lack of bling in my life lately. Plus my instructor(s) seemed to have their head planted firmly in their ass last event. Bad luck, and shit happens - but my last session out on the track definitely brought up some questions and concerns.

Ahhh screw it, I'm pretty sure you guys will see me there. I really need to do something about my brakes though.

No Tech Inspection in the morning. You get one done at a shop before hand.

Big things
-battery secured
-good tread on your tires
-sufficient brake pad thickness(especially up front!) and CLEAN, GOOD fluid

More on this please?

My first session, with Tracquest, I mainly wanted to sightsee and enjoy myself and not wreck my car.

This time, the same goals, but I do want to work on turn 7 and 12 a little bit.

I had some instructor issues, mainly, trying to get to know their style, what they we looking for, trying to impart and drive all at the same time. Talking, listening and driving is kinda a hassle.

I'm planning to seek instructors out before hand to get most of the stylistic chit chat out of the way, so in the car it's just gas the fuck out of it, brake! turn in!

That's what I mean, how does the BMWCCA operate? Tracquest was kind seat of the pants, which was kool, but hard to get consistent.

Ron, anything to add? :biglaughb

Yeah... kick a few tires. Check a few seatbelts. Make sure no wires are dangling from the undercarriage.

You're golden!

:alright

The pdf I sent you was from last year. They don't do the tech at the track any more. You need the form signed by a "professional" mechanic.

I've found the instructors to be involved, not just letting you go seat-of-the-pants.

I think my instructor "issues" were definitely not the norm. I just had a string of bad luck there. You can't expect that you'll get along with everybody, so why should it be any different with this group of instructors? You can always request a different instructor if yours isn't what you were looking for.

Most instructors seem to be excellent at BMWCCA, and most likely have the same goals as you do. Don't worry, jump on in. The water is fine. Addictive, but fine. :D

Hrm, I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to make this one, for a couple of reasons:

A) Car needs new cooling system ($200)
B) Car needs new tires ($500)
C) I need defensive driving course to get license back ($150)
D) I need to pay license reinstatement fee ($250)
E) I need to get a radar detector before I start driving again ($350)
F) I gotta pay the fees for the event ($125, right?)
G) I don't have a damn license right now, so how the hell am I supposed to sign up for the event. Shit.
H-Z) Crap that will come up that I haven't accounted for, I'm sure.

A combination of "bling issues" and beaurocratic (sp?) b.s. may prevent me from actually driving. :( In any case, it's VERY likely that I'll show and at least do some ridealongs with instructors if possible.

Thankfully it's a couple months away (nearly) so I might be able to fund this, but we shall have to see.

The event is $325 and they did ask for a DL number.

Radar? Hooey. I've never had one. Highway patrol uses laser and most everyone else uses instant on. I don't speed (very often) on I-85. Ok, so there's the entrance fee... :D

I just paid $840 for tires and $150 for mounting. :(

I think you can register as a guest though.

$325? BUGGER!

Well, keep in mind I live in Athens, so those podunk police don't have that fancy-schmancy teknalagy. If I'd had a radar detector before, I would have a license right now.

I'm sticking with my guns on this one; with the kind of points I've got on my license right now, any ticket will make my insurance rates jump through the stratosphere (they're already through the roof). If it saves me just one time (and there's no question it will), it'll have been worth it.

Hrm...guess the only course of action is to sell those 20 AA Gen. 3's I just picked up and see where that lands me financially. ;)

Where there's a will, there's a way. And there's a helluvalot of will in this man to get out there on the track. I've been itching to ever since I got the car, so I suppose I just better hunker down and make it happen.

Besides, I've got a set of fresh Zimmerman rotors and Axxis Ultimates I need to gobble up and parents to make worry. :D

Confirmation packets with additional school information will be mailed out at least two weeks before the school. Tech forms included in the confirmation package need to be filled out prior to registration at the track. If we need to perform this tech at the track there will be a $50 service charge!

I found this obscure line. :D

So this tech inspection form comes in the confirmation packet.

It's the same for each event. If you want Danny, I'll shoot you the last school's packet. It's about 3ish MB or so, .pdf.
