View Full Version : Do I have the right tires?

I have the 95' 840CI 4.0L

I currently have Michelin PS2's 225/55 ZR16 on the car, but I had a blow out and they are within 6 months of needing to be replaced so I'm going to get a new set, but my size seems off?

Is 225/55 ZR16 the right size? Is there a size that will fit my 17' stock Bmw rims that would give me more traction?

I've already read about the tire brand debate so I'm just looking to find out if I can get bigger tires.

Thanks!

look for the wheel and tire registry thread on this section and that will give you the info you need.

Wait.......You have 225/55 ZR16 on your stock 17'' right now??

that doesn't make sense. Maybe i'm getting stuff confused.

Well I measured the rim, it's 17".

They are BMW rims.

I mean they were an option I assume, but they are not aftermarket.

Look at the text on the (most likely inside of the) wheel. It should have something like 7.5x16J. Please post that number and we can help you further.

HOly Crap! I tried to post that last nite, but the site was down??? Till this morning for me

I ordered some Falken 452's. A fellow 8er recommened and I have never had good luck with Michelins, I've had them on both bimmers and they never make it through their tread life.

Thanks. I ordered some 255/55 ZR16

Hate to be the one to tell you this, but a 255/55 ZR16 will NOT work on the front of this car. This size tire will most definately rub on the strut tube and/or the coil perch. I hope that this was a typo, the tire should be 235/50 ZR16

But my fronts right now say 255/55 ZR16 W

There has been no rubbing thus far and also the spare (pirelli) was also 255/55 ZR16 W

that is bizarre, do you have stock wheels?, wheel spacers?

I too am a bit surprised they don't rub...they gotta be close. I have 255/50/16 Michelin Pilots on nonstock Borbets and those are maxxed out.. 'bout 3/8" from perch and inside components.

My PO was a bone stock guy.

They are stock wheels. BMW originals, they are like ninja stars and non chrome.

You guys are going to kill me. I've been typing "255"
I meant 225.

LOL my bad.
I have and ordered 225. You know how you look at something and it just looks fine, until someone points it out.
