I wanted to introduce myself this week with some great pics of this really sexy black 850i that I just bought but it seems that I have encountered my first glitch-

Im having my windows retinted, we pulled the pass side fuses to keep the window up while the door is open to take off and apply the tint. Someone closed the trunk before putting the fuses back in. Now the trunk wont open, not even with the key. I can get the key in the trunk lock and it turns but it wont open....... Any ideas?

Thanks....

I will add some pics soon!!

Turn the key then pull it out and push the lock itself up firmly and it should unlock.

Oh and welcome to the Insanity :)

Put your key in the trunk lock and turn it clockwise (toward the front of the car), twist it back and pull it out. Then push upward on the key cylinder itself with your finger. Trunk should unlatch.

You guys completely rock !!!
Thanks a million.... The rubber seals on the trunk were sticking together a little more due to the treatment that the detailer put on them so I had to pull up extra hard.... But its open!

Thanks again!!!!

Just as a FYI for future reference:
You do not need to pull any fuses. What you do is tint the door windows with the door open. You have to "Trick" the door into thinking it is closed by taking a screwdriver and latching the door latch, which in turn drives the window up. Once the tint is applied, just lift the door handle so the latch unlocks and the window retracts enough to close the door without damaging the window.

I'm very surprised that your tint guy didn't know how to fool the window. This procedure is actually quite common at reputable/experienced tint shops.

Cheers :D

PS. Welcome! Post pics of your ride!

They said they always pull the fuses to keep the windows from being rolled down for the first 48 hours... He was aware of the screwdriver method but he dont like to do it that way. I dont care, I just my windows done! Its looking good so far..... Thanks for the comment anyways!

I understand, makes sense. Your guys kept the car to do the tint for a few days. I've always had my tint done in a couple of hours, so never heard of the need to pull the fuses.

You need 15+ posts in order to post pics. Keep posting, we wanna see your ride :D

Cheers

They really dont keep them more than a day for tint unless they real busy. They are also doing a sound system for me and thats whats taking so long....

That is a great way to mess up your glass. The window actually retracts for a reason, pulling the fuses prevents it from doing this very important function. You are lucky your glass hasn't shattered by either opening or closing the door without the window movement.
