Sorry to do this again, but I seem to have shown my tail lights to another BMW.

We were toying with each other for a couple of miles until we caught a light. The light turned green, we both rolled a little and I waited for him to hit it. He went, I went. I passed him by the end of first gear. He closed the gap a little at the beginning of second gear and then fell about 2-3 carlengths back by the end of second.

What do these cars run in the 1/4 mile? I'm assuming the 528 would be slower than the 328, right?

Just for the record, any of my stoplight matches are from a street start. I'm relatively obnoxious, but I'm not about to drop my clutch at 4000rpm on the street. I would guess this hurts me more than the car with a larger motor and more cylinders.

Nice kill! ;) Yeah I think 528i's are slower then 328i's. With the Mod's that I assume you have in your sig, I think you should of pulled him harder and faster :dunno

My car really isn't modified as far as power goes. I have an exhaust and an intake sucking in hot underhood air. I'm also running through a tired and likely slightly clogged catalytic converter with 150k on it.

Suspension has been completely updated, but this was just a straight line thing.

The gauges are just rice... I had planned to be turbo a long time ago but the car needed other stuff first. Roll bar because I had planned on making this a dedicated track car when it's retired from street use and I got a decent deal in a group buy. It handles very well, but she's definitely not fast (which can get embarassing since it IS loud.)

Good kill. 528i's are ~mid-high 15 second cars depending on if they're auto or manual.

I believe it was a stick. I was behind him for a little while and almost tapped his bumper on the 1-2 shift.

Here's something I'd like to ask you BMW ownwers without starting another thread about it...

I'm assuming all assembled here are enthusiasts. You drive you BMWs hard (when appropriate) and learn the limits of what is certainly a wonderful automobile.

Does the sheer volume of BMW owners of the non-enthusiast type ever get under your skin? Do you ever see a 45 year old woman chainsmoking, holding a tiny dog under one arm and chatting on a cell phone walking towards the parking lot and say a little silent prayer that she does not get into a BMW? Do you ever see a guy in perfectly creased pants and French cuffs who you know damn well could not check his own oil level get into a BMW and drive away as you cringed?

I know there are at least 3 M5's driving around near me. I've seen them all at different times. I have yet to see one of the drivers off the cell phone while operating the vehicle.

I'm not a BMW owner, and the wasted potential in these cars is just a shame.

I'd have to agree with you somewhat on that. There's obviously many BMW owners who still think they have a V-6 under the hood.
However, I try not to judge people too much because I dress pretty nice and I wouldn't want somebody thinking I don't know shit about cars just because of my appearance, ya know?

It's not necessarilly the dress code. You can tell by the way somenone carries themselves whether they're a car person or not. If you're here, I doubt you're the person I intended that remark for... even with your perfectly creased pants and french cuffs. ;)
