I had the belts replaced on my 328i as part of the reg maintenance about 10 mos. ago.... well, the shop did not use OEM parts and they are severely cracked once again(learned this during an AutoX inspection...was very surprised).
Has anyone done this install? I was hoping to only be out on the cost of the belts...and not an hour of labor (complete rip off in my opinion...seen an mechanic do it in 15 mins...)
Can anyone in the ATL help me with this? Is this a DIY? I would assume it would be....

If you replace the a/c belt you'll need to lift the car. The serp can be done with the car on the ground.
The serp is really easy. Pop the cover off the tensioner. Make mental note of belt path throught the pulleys. Use socket to pull tension off the belt and remove belt. Put new belt on, pop tensioner cover back on and your done.
www.logun.org very helpful website.

BKarktic328i, this is a DIY job. My advise would be to invest in a Bentley or similar manual that will give you instructions with pictures covering thai and almost anything else you might want to do yourself. It's a good investment (~$45) that will pay for itself many times over.

thanks guys... I have done brakes, oil and such, but not the belts.... I am not sure which one that I am seeing that is cracking... it is straight down in the front of the bay behind the fan (of course I think that is where BOTH of them are...so it prob doesn't help much....)

Thats the serpentine belt. The a/c would be low on the pass side of the car.
