Someone's also selling an automatic 1990 325i-2 for $1200 with snow tires on CL. It'd make a great beater, until the automatic transmission blows up on you. :D

I have a 2 door 325e with no headliner and welded roof for $350(with title) as is... Car runs but its rough at start up. Once it warms up it runs fine... it sits a lot, when I was daily driving it, it ran fine and started everytime I turned the key. It passed inspection this past october/November when I put it back on the road
