View Full Version : How many of you would buy a 528iT 5 speed?
iwannadinanm3 07-22-2003, 06:23 AM hey i was wondering, it seems as if bmw didn't make too many 528i touring's with manual tranny's i guess because the typical station wagon buyer prefers auto, so these are pretty rare.
How many of you here would consider buying one for you or your mom or your wife or whoever, that can drive stick and wants a wagon?
I think they can be had for pretty cheap too, atleast compared to a normal 528iaT
shmoo 07-22-2003, 09:40 AM Get the 540 Touring. The 528 is a big pig and if you use it to haul stuff from the store, you definately need the HP an torque.
sirtiger 07-22-2003, 10:50 AM no many stick touring out there..... I knew one person who was looking for one.... hard to find item...
shragon 07-22-2003, 11:25 AM i'd take it.
iwannadinanm3 07-22-2003, 04:57 PM not for me. I'm just trying to see like what the general market would be like for this car. it seems pretty soft since most people driving the tourings are women, atleast from what i've noticed
nuke941 07-23-2003, 12:39 PM when I was shopping for a e34 I was looking for a wagon. Those things dont come in stick thats what kept me away. It would be perfect.. .specially since the e34 has such damn puniy trunk.
iwannadinanm3 07-23-2003, 04:19 PM yeah, i didn't think they made a e34 5 spd wagon, atleast for us here in the states, but i do know they have e39 528 wagons that are in 5 spd
95m3sc 07-23-2003, 04:31 PM does this look like a laddies car?

sirtiger 07-25-2003, 09:58 PM that is one hot momma!!
bmwm3n528 07-26-2003, 12:07 AM you'd really enjoy a 528iT, they're are awesome cars...and they have the rack-in-pinion steering system, compared to the 540iT's less communicative/responsive recirculating ball steering system...
....btw, the 528iT is no pig...its no M car, but it is an incredible highway cruiser, and can throw its weight around like a champ.
of course, if your comparing a e45 M5 touring to a e39 m52 touring, haha...well need i say more.
Rob, did you install EDC on your touring, or was it already on the car?

Rack and pinion steering... Can't put one in the other. :D

E34, of course. The car came with EDC from BMW, see the link in my sig for tech specs and more details.
It really annoys me that there is no 540 Touring 6-speed. BMW made the 540 "SportWagon" and it is just absurd that they can combine the words "Sport" and "automatic only" on the option sheet. KMS recently built one of those for a customer, so if anyone is looking to have it done, that's the place to go.
Every time the brass at BMW NA says "we don't build these cars because nobody will buy them." I ask in return, "Really? When was the last time a BMW dealer had trouble getting rid of a car? Nobody buys manual wagons here because you guys don't make them. Notice a connection? Oddly enough, Audi, VW, Subaru, and all the players that are nipping at BMW's heals have no trouble selling this sort of car, and often with more engine available." It's very frustrating to see my favorite car company be so obstinate.

excuse me, haha...rack and pinion.
yeah, it frusterates me also that there is no 6 spd. 540iT available, that would be a stunning vehicle...quite a shame. They just dont realize that there is a market for high performance wagons, as slim as it may be...
You've probably seen the guy in Georgia with the M5 converted e39 estate...that's what BMW should do, heck with this 540iT, just introduce another M5T.(I'm sure Rob,and everyone for that matter, will agree:D )
btw...Rob, this is the same guy that inquired some info. on that 91' M5 you looked at a week ago or so...
OlyVR 08-29-2006, 04:03 PM I not only would buy one, i just did about a month ago.
I wasn't even in the market, but just cruising around passing time by test driving cars. The local dealer just got one on a trade and i bought it the next day. Love the stick and after throwing a Z3 shifter in it, the throw is a lot shorter and much more fun. It's no pig, but no dragster either - however a great car in the twisties.
i'd take one.... more room to bring mods home
Mr Project 08-29-2006, 08:35 PM I wanted a BMW wagon with a stick so badly I built one myself. :)
upallnight 08-30-2006, 09:48 AM not for me. I'm just trying to see like what the general market would be like for this car. it seems pretty soft since most people driving the tourings are women, atleast from what i've noticed
I'm driving our 525it when I'm not driving the 911. I would love to get a stick 525it but then the little women couldn't drive the Bimmer, at least she leaves the 911 alone.
BimmerDawg 08-30-2006, 01:46 PM Got one too, for the lady. Absolutely love it, and you wouldn't believe the looks she gets driving one slammed on 20s. :rofl
Seriously, though...it's no slouch as others stated. For daily driving and a all-around cruiser, it'd be hard to beat. 28 MPG doesn't hurt, either! :D
Plus, knowing that you're driving a pretty rare car that only an enthusiast would own is gratifying.
franka 08-30-2006, 02:55 PM Not with a stick and not with a 6 cyl.
