View Full Version : Walked over a Porsche Boxter
540Rob 03-14-2001, 04:04 PM As I was going to lunch today I got behind a Silver Porsche Boxter. I followed him closely and we pulled up to a stoplight, we were both turning right onto the highway. As he is waiting for traffic to clear I am behind him giving my bimmer a few revs. Traffic clears and he punches it on out and into the left lane. I follow right behind him and then back into the right hand lane. As I slowly pull along side of him and then past, flash my hassards, he flashes his lights and its over. I slow down and let him pass on by, I have to show some respect for my elders. Obviously he was pissed that I beat him so he passes and then starts moving doing about 80 in a 55. I follow. About a mile down the road we both have to take the same exit, it is a 270 degree loop and he figures he can take me on... guess again. I stayed right on his ass and then when we had to get in traffic there was a truck that he got behind and another beside it so he couldn't get in front of them. I stay in the merge lane, drop it into second and take off infront of everyone with just barely enough road to get back over.
I'm a little disapointed in Porsche for making a car that looks so beautiful and sleek, but just doesn't have the power that one would expect..... until you get to the "S" type :)
Rahul325 03-14-2001, 07:51 PM Did u stop and think that maybe, just maybe the driver did not know how to drive a porsche. Maybe he does not know how to get the full potential of his car.
540Rob 03-14-2001, 08:42 PM Now why do you want to ruin my good mood.... can't we just call a kill a kill and leave it at that.... the guy was a little old (grey/white hair and all) :)
V Shah 03-14-2001, 08:58 PM Yah, those Boxsters are definitely underpowered, but they are not to be messed with in the twisties. They are extremely well balanced and handle beautifully.
I gave my gf my 95 (chip/intake only at the time) and she could keep up with me (I was in a Boxster S with exhaust) to 60mph, until she had to shift to third (Boxster S goes to around 70mph in second...but A) she's my gf, and does not drive fast, and B) this M3 was not a car she's totally used to...but the Boxster S shines when accelarating from about 75-110mph..before and after that it's not that great, and a tad slower than an M3, in my opinion. What it needs (considering it DOES have a six-speed) is a shorter diff ratio! It's geared very similarly to the 996(!) but has no where near the kick that sucker has! Shorter gears in the "S" would make that car ROCK! CYA>PM3
VOLSBimmer 03-20-2001, 03:37 AM good kill, is your 328is stock? A stock 328is should beat a stock Boxster, but just barely if they both are manuals. The newer Boxsters have a bigger engine and are faster, and I believe they will be faster than a 328is. A Boxster S is another story, my dad has a 2000 Boxster S with the 6 speed and it is bone stock and I've got intake/exhaust/clutchstop on my 328is, he would absolutely blow me off the road, not even close; it is such a totally awesome car all around, it's real fast and handles extremely well. I've driven it a few times and it's just a dream to drive, so smooth and yet so fast and ready to get up and rock whenever you want it to--such a work of art!! It's definately faster than an E36 M3 both stock, the Boxter S with the 6 speed should run mid 13's in the 1/4 stock. My brother has a twin turbo Stealth with just an intake, and he runs mid to high 13s, and my dads Boxster S is definately faster, so mid 13s should be attainable in stock form (w/ the 6 speed of course). What an awesome car!
540Rob 03-20-2001, 11:11 AM I have a software upgrade, and it is 5-speed. The boxter was stock of course, possibly manual, cause that guy was soo..... old
I agree the "S" is a dream car.
VOLSBimmer 03-20-2001, 03:20 PM What software upgrade do you have and do you like it, meaning was it worth the money? If that's all you have, then you should really look into getting an intake and exhaust because you will see much more of an improvement from the software with them on your car also. Also look into the UUC clutchstop, it's only $20 and it really helps with quick shifts, check it out on their web page, it tells all about it.
I'm going home this weekend and hopefully will get to drive the Boxster S if it is nice outside (PLEASE, PLEASE be nice outside!!:) )--I'm salivating at the thought of it!!
540Rob 03-22-2001, 07:17 PM Dunno which software upgrade... "The Dealer said" that it had it, but he was probably just bull!@#$ing me. Didn't really matter at that price, but I would hate to spend $400 to put a software upgrade in the care only to find out that it already had it. Maybe if someone has a sharker I could get it done for less.... oh well.
540Rob 03-22-2001, 07:18 PM Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I kinda kept up with a M3 today.... beautiful car. Wish I had one... I hope my car didn't just hear me say that.
