iamhydrogen 01-09-2009, 01:31 PM looks like a lot of fun!
savage217 01-09-2009, 01:53 PM Would be fun although id like to use a diffeent car like an e30 325ix. That would be cool. Hopefully this year they have better luck. I think they only had 1 or 2 races last year because of the warm weather.
adstock 01-09-2009, 02:03 PM I'm going to try to make it to atleast one this winter with the e28
NHskibm 01-09-2009, 02:31 PM :( 325iX... miss it so...
55fanatic 01-09-2009, 02:49 PM can I take my E46 to this? I have snow tires... I would totally run an ice race, minus freezing my nut sack off
millertimebmw03 01-09-2009, 02:54 PM what's cool about this is that anyone can run!
i'm racing a friend with a 1994 toyota tercel, he has winter tires and FWD so we'll be in different classes but with awd and all seasons i think our times will be mighty close so we will race on that basis !!!!
55fanatic 01-09-2009, 02:58 PM what's cool about this is that anyone can run!

is it like autoX on the ice?
millertimebmw03 01-09-2009, 03:16 PM EXACTLY!!! no contact :D
axthrower 01-09-2009, 04:24 PM I'm down for this
55fanatic 01-09-2009, 06:39 PM EXACTLY!!! no contact :D
open to non BMWs as well? I might have a friend who would do this as well, she'll school me in her STi though
millertimebmw03 01-09-2009, 08:15 PM I'm trying to track down studed tires now, I have an old set from my E36 but I think, even with all-wheel drive, I will be all over the place with my all seasons and sheet ice. If there is snow on the ice I think I'll have enough traction though!!!
And yes, ALL CARS WELCOME ! ! ! ! !
JamaC 01-09-2009, 09:55 PM Ill be there. Live 1 mile from the course. Got First and third last year in two runs which averaged to third overall for class C
Bad picture from last year (Cold out there).
millertimebmw03 01-10-2009, 09:58 PM Do you think I need studded snows or will all seasons be ok? if there is snow in the ice i'll be ok but glare ice will be another story!!!!!
JamaC 01-11-2009, 12:15 PM You can run what ever tires you want, you will just be placed in the appropriate class. I run studless snows. They have the classifications on their website.
It all depends on the year if it will be glare ice or hard pack. A few years ago they had to set up cones to slow people down as there was great grip, but hard snow banks.
millertimebmw03 01-11-2009, 09:11 PM I read everything so far,
I'd be in class "X" and I'm hoping to get a set of studded snows :D :D :D
tsylatac 01-12-2009, 11:20 AM I just sent an email about that last week. So stoked.
millertimebmw03 01-12-2009, 03:09 PM so Tsylatac we'll see you there????
Anyone see studded 15"s on craigslist anywhere???? pref. new but whatever :)
E30SPDFRK 01-14-2009, 02:56 AM I would love to do this, too bad it's 200 miles away.

oh, and ice-sliding/racing/auto-x sounds absolutely amazing. with the exception of the cold and the constant fear that my 3,000lb car would fall through the ice (i know, it won't....), I'd be all over it

Arctic330i 01-14-2009, 10:21 PM Sounds like fun but I'd be afraid I'd mess up my car..hmm plus it's bad enough going to those April/October autoXs...way too cold.

they slide.. not like E92 M3 power-on oversteer but they slide well enough, especially on ice.
millertimebmw03 01-14-2009, 11:49 PM tsylatac, do you have winter tires or all seasons?
I have 1,000 sheat metal screws, scrap tires, gallon of slime tire sealant and hopefully enough time .... :D :D :D :D

millertimebmw03 01-17-2009, 12:49 AM Update* * * * *
no races this sunday (18th)
first race is sunday the 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JamaC 01-17-2009, 05:13 PM first race is sunday the 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Possibly as this will not be finalized till the end of the week, esp for the first event. The good news is the new place they are hosting it always freezes first and is somewhat sheltered from the wind. That and the cold weather the past week so there is a good chance they will have it next weekend.
I was out on the lake today and there was a few trucks out there so looks to be thick enough, not sure how may inches.

e36cruiser 01-18-2009, 12:53 AM hmm... maybe i'll rip the m3. sounds fun to me.

I'm a native but never drove out on the ice. I wanted to get ALOT of practice before the event. I wonder if we could get some practice in this week?

Well the entrance they will be using is private. The only public entrance that I know of is at Wellington State park and we got 8" of snow today. So if you knew someone with a plow you might be able to make your own practice track. However I wouldn't venture out without asking some fishermen how thick the ice is. So far I have only been out on the snowmobile a little bit.
millertimebmw03 01-19-2009, 08:32 PM Good call, and a few friends of mine have plows for alittle extra$$ around this time of year so that shouldn't be a problem :)
I saw a lot of 4x4 trucks on the lake today. mabey its good? :)
millertimebmw03 01-22-2009, 10:45 PM My heart can't take another hit....
Races put off another week (not enough ice).....
SUPERBOWL SUNDAY'S THE NEXT ONE PLANNED......

millertimebmw03 02-04-2009, 04:01 PM What do we think for this week??? Does anyone know how to set up an event like this on a small shallower lake???
LIST OF ALL NEW HAMPSHIRE LAKES/ PONDS AND DEPTHS (http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/bathy_maps.htm)
If this doesn't happen again this weekend I wish I knew the legalities of driving on a lake...
I will attend this event Sunday if no BMWCCA events, perhaps they could do an autoX event after? :)

Don't bet on them looking into doing an autox style event. These guys do all competitive stuff. Circlt track only. They actually get some descent semi pro drivers there too.
Cages, lexan windshields, tire chains and such are required for the latchkey events. There can be some rubbing and bumping too. I would love to get involved in that event. Lots of fun!
millertimebmw03 02-05-2009, 09:44 AM If the Bmwcca doesn't happen I'm now taking a trip to Vermont
SCCV (Sports Car Club of Vermont)

Raxhel 02-28-2009, 12:27 PM Ice racing is a go for tomorrow! See you all there.
greenleaf 02-28-2009, 04:49 PM is there even enough ice to race on? been pretty warm lately...
JamaC 02-28-2009, 05:09 PM is there even enough ice to race on? been pretty warm lately...
Yes plenty of ice. I was out on the lake today to check out the course and it looks like its going to be slick out there. It looks like they plowed before the rain then was flooded over on Friday. Its a icerink out there but outside of the course there are quite a bit of frozen ruts from the last couple warm ups.

tsylatac 02-28-2009, 07:34 PM Anyone heading up from Boston?
Arctic330i 03-01-2009, 12:55 PM I know a guy named Dave that's going from Boston. Think he's bringing an STi. If you see him let him know I said hi. I was thinking about going but didn't want to drive in the snow and lots of work to do anyway.

Haha, sounds like I wouldn't have even been able to move if you got the xi stuck.
How about that muffed rule? Did anyone there have a loud exhaust? I really want to do this and that's all that's holding me back.

Maybe instead of talking smack you should give it a try and tell us how you do :D

I don't think anyone had a loud exhaust... But they didn't have anybody teching or testing... so, you might be ok.
