I am interested in purchasing a used X3 for my newly licensed son. I have looked on the mainstream sites and there seems to be a preference for the 2006. However, when i contacted the dealer who I have a relationship with (I drive a 750), they are offering what I want, but in a 2007. I apologize to the frequent contributors if this topic has been discussed before, if so, just provide the link. I just wish to know the pros and cons of a 2006 X3 vs a 2007 in the preowned market. Thanks for your replies.

I would be concerned most about the automatic transmission issues, which have been reported rather extensively, in the '07. A portion of 2007-08 X3s built between 9/2006 and 11/2007 may have possible faulty transmission software programming. Check the in service date to see if your dealer's X3 falls within those dates. Not trying to scare you out of an '07, just be aware and check service records.
The 2 most obvious differences are the added horsepower in the '07 (30-40 I think) and the interior refinements, also on the '07, such as nicer door panels and added wood trim on the dashboard.
Other than that, I'm sure your newly licensed son would be thrilled with either. I know I would be at 17!

Oh the 2007 is far superior to a 2006. Who told you they were better?
More powerful engine
Better looking interior
Better looking exterior
I owned a pre-facelifted X3 and a post-facelifted X3. Post > pre

in general, i would purchase a late in the cycle model versus early in the cycle model. less headaches. though many headaches would teach you son valuable lessons...

Go with the '07. I have one and I love it!
