I received Wolf's updated EML Chip in the mail yesterday, installed it in the car last night, and have clocked about 300 miles so far. Here is the unbiased evaluation:

If anyone thought that the original Wokke chips were great, you definately have to try this new EML v2.0 chip. The difference is like night and day. The acceleration from dead stop is very noticeable! This chip alone will give the 3.91LSD crowd a run for their money. TxGreg stopped by today and we did some head to head comparison, and needless to say all he got to see was the HYBRID sticker on my trunk!

By far this is the most impressive thing I have seen for the 850 for the cost. The car is now how it should have come from Dingolfing from day one. The pull from dead stop is very strong, and it seems that this is not limited to 1st gear. I have felt quicker rolling acceleration as well.

Thank you Wolf for improving on what I have always considered the best chipset out there. I have run DINAN, Racing Dynamics, CONFORTI, and a few "home-grown" chips, but nothing comes close to the performance and relaiblity.

This product has received the Sick Puppy Motorwerks Seal of Approval

P.S. Kent, your boxes are on the way back to you.

NO news of an 840 4.0 update?

Is there?

I was under the impression that this EML chip only improved throttle response. Quicker response wouldn't make your car much quicker off the line than the old chip.. Is there something else it's allowing the throttles to do that they couldn't before?

TxGR8White
01-01-2009, 11:46 PM
I don't know the mechanics behind it, but it is quicker. The proof was going up against an 850 with the "old" Wokke Chips in it, and (sorry Greg), smokin' it...

both cars were door to door beforehand? Many variables can lead equally equipped cars to perform differently

I've heard something about the EML not allowing WOT until 4200 rpm, if this chip gets around that, assuming correct information, that would help your low rev full acceleration figures. If so, time for an update :buttrock

engine speed limit
vehicle speed limit

I will be buying the wokke chipset in a couple of months, mostly because I will be out of town and will not be home to put them in. I also want to drive the car with the stock set up just so that I can get a better appreciation for the new chips.

Thanks Steffen- I thought you were'nt going to rub it in! I'm not sure what this chip does but it definitely improves throttle response frrom idle thru 3k rpm. Just to be sure of analysis, we swapped EML's from my car to TX and then HE got to look at MY V12 licence plate (he left that part out!). Really is an amazing improvement. One of these and a supercharger kit from John should do it! I'll be ready after Florida. Anyone who has delt with Wokke will attest to his integrity and product. If you have V1 chips, you WILL want this V2. If you're stock, watch out when you install these- you might hit something before you realized you just got launched unexpectedly! It definitely sticks you to the back of the seat better. Cudos Wolf- good job. SPM endorsement here!

TxGR8White: Was the car you tested equipped with AT or MT transmission?

NO news of an 840 4.0 update?

Is there?

I'm led to believe the 840s did not use electronic throttles so this chip would not work on those in that case since it is a replacement for the stock throttle chip, not to be confused with the engine chips. Wokke does make engine control chips for the 840 that are viewed in high regard however.

TxGR8White: Was the car you tested equipped with AT or MT transmission?

Both cars have AT, wheels are the same set-up (staggered), both have BILSTEINS, both drivers weigh about the same.

This upgrade is solely for the M70 V12 crowd.

Just curious but is the throttle limiter there to protect the automatic transmission?

TxGR8White
01-02-2009, 01:11 PM
2 different things: the rev limiter is still there, the Vmax (max speed governor) is removed.
The "original" Wokke chips have taken my 850 up to 170mph, no problem..

The 285's in back probably help a lot :) With the v2.0 chip installed either of my 245's just ended up spinning if I floored it from a stop.

Both John in DC, the FI guy and I had found that the throttles will not go full open until ~4200 RPM with the peddle flat on the floor. The DK motors response is also tailored and modified to other conditions such as wheel spin etc. This has caused some issues trouble with FI the M70 but I think John has/is addressing that.

From the reports, it sounds like this situation may be altered in Wokke's latest EML chip and where the difference is noted. It would be interesting to do a test in each gear starting at 4000 to see if there was a change there or the cars are more even.

Impressive work from Wokke and company as always..... I wish he could get something for a 97 850CI.....
Meanwhile no sense for me to invest on those chips for my 91 since I am about to put John's in DC Super Charger kit on it, which will replace the stock chips anyway.....
Good evaluation work Steff and Greg....as always.....

Just got my ECU back from Sick puppy motorwerks with the Wokke chip installed. And wow i am amazed at the performance upgrade!!!!!

Throttle response is very sensitive now, plus i can feel more horses running through the car. And it looks like i had DINAN chip installed already.

So wokke chip > Dinan.

P.S:
Thanks Steffen for everything. I recommend everyone Sick Puppy Motorwerks . They are very professional, friendly.

I am so jealous of you guys that keep posting about the eml 2.0. I bought one of the first sets but my car is having so many items put on by my bmw guy that I won't get to see what it feels like for at least another week. sorry it takes so damned long. Unfortunately beyond my control :(

Deutsche Bundespost in combination with USPS is probably the worst available but the only one with prices one can afford. All the courier services are outrageous and real deal killers.

unfortunately correct. Chips in those cars are soldered and can't be replaced since those chips are not available.

chip makes a big difference when pulling off from a red light. you have power now:eek: i will try to take it on the highway tonight to check the mpg
but i think it was well worth the wait. i hit 80mph on this street by my work, but before the chip 65mph was my cut off. i might have been able to hit 85-90 but their were other cars on the road, and it was the first test drive.:nono

In normal driving I'm noticing about an 8-10% increase in fuel economy -
So let me get this straight:
1) More fun to drive-better acceleration
2) Better gas mileage

Yup-definately one of the better upgrades to the car :)

Has anybody got a video of acceleration with chip. Something like this.

This is my friends car. Mine was a bit faster.

http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=hLxgf-JxVyo

until he put 3.91 LSD from M5

http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=z125bykxo5w

My question is - if i put this chip in my car will i be able to outrun my friend?

I don't want to put short diff becouse the revs are too high for me.

Yes, Absolutely, No doubt, Do it, But if you get the 2.0/Recent Chip and the 3:91 you will smoke him badly!

PS.
Thanks for posting the 3:91 comparison, It really shows how the engine stays much closer to the power band.

So i have to order one from Wolf. I could beat that 850i on economy mode and now i see only remus tips. The difference is when we are starting from a red light. When we are going 100-200 kph there is much better.

Thanks :)
