I wonder what hapened to this piece of history?It's on display in the BMW Museum in Munich, together with the other art cars.

like it or not, this is a pretty famous piece of art. i'm not saying that i DO like it... i'm just saying that it is a piece of history. david hockney wasn't just another schmuck kryloning his car. he was a very prominent artist and in many ways this piece brought the 8 series to the attention of many people who otherwise wouldn't have known what the hell an 8 was. BMW has had similar relationships with several noteworthy artists, starting in the mid 70's http://www.cartype.com/pages/345/bmw_art_cars

showroom miles fsh 1 owner BMW it's got to be worth more now than new.
do they keep it serviced?
I'll have to go and see for my self + visit koenig as well while i'm there

Guys, It's just the skin of the car. Hockney was an acclaimed artist for sure but just an artist. His work on this car is just another expression of his work. It's just a canvas to him and we should be happy that BMW gave him such an expensive one to use. The 850 will always be a beautiful piece of art with or without Hockney's expression.

you can see hockeys car in the background here
there is sandro chias car and david hockneys on the left
and andy warhols m1 and alexander calders (the first bmw art car) 3.0
btw the hockney car was never driven. so i doubt the did any maintenance on it but
to keep her nice and shiney.
