View Full Version : DC SCCA #4 - Who's going?
John V 07-17-2003, 07:38 AM Since everyone is clamoring for results to the BMW event, let's find out who's going to the event this weekend at FedEx.
I'm E01 (car 1, heat 1 in the afternoon).
-John
kenkamm 07-17-2003, 08:11 AM I'm there d00d. Heat two I think, car 25. :alright
Ken
Looks like a lot of folks from Columbia are going! I'll be there as well...#37 in the last heat of the morning group.
John V 07-17-2003, 08:38 AM Yeah, Ken's a Columbia poseur though. ;)
I would caravan with you guys, but I'd rather not wake up at the butt-crack of dawn if I can avoid it. Oh well.
John
laineyM3 07-17-2003, 09:46 AM I don't rememebr what number I am... I'm somewhere in Solo's heat. Be there around 11.
Elaine -
Heard your brother is driving an M Coupe these days. WTF?
Neil
laineyM3 07-17-2003, 10:19 AM Well, he said something about showing this guy how to drive his own car? I dunno :dunno That guy must suck or something
;)
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 10:25 AM
I'll be there.. and yes, Ill be driving a Red M Coupe (thanks Neil)... Glenn, Im COMING AFTER YOU! :)
NoSoup4U 07-17-2003, 10:27 AM Anyone doing the following sunday with Z car group? I was on the waitlist; but, just received my confirmation yesterday that I was in. #134. Have fun this weekend!
Elaine -
James did fun run in my car at NCC event last weekend and was one-hundredth second off FTD. My "best" was 47.6 (a second behind Glenn) but I coned at the start!
Neil
kenkamm 07-17-2003, 10:48 AM Yes John is right... :bawl I don't live in Columbia... I live in Odenton... but not for long... probably heading back to the Columbia area and... ahh forget it. ;)
Ken
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 10:50 AM should be interesting on Sunday.... FedEx is much more open and setup for your car Neil.. assuming Glenn's car is still "stock" as he puts it... but then again, I used to always say the Vette was "stock" too ;)
Maybe we need to run by Radial Tire and get some Hoosiers :D
Eric -
Great idea! I'll split them with you...
Neil
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 11:05 AM Neil... lol. Too bad it isnt the beginning of the season, or I'd def. be into some Hoosiers...
If I drive your car for more than this event though, I think it would only be fair for me to pay for some of your tires... we'll talk Sunday.
Too bad Z06 wheels don't for on a M COupe :)
vjlax18 07-17-2003, 11:13 AM I'll be there.... SM#18 of course :)

Uhh...let me correct you, Eric. I've always said that my car is closer to stock than it is to a SP or SM car, not stock outright. :12:
vjlax18 07-17-2003, 11:56 AM Glenn, wanna let me borrow those whees/tires to give them a try to make sure that your advice about how my tires suck is true :stickoutt
But...when my extended warranty runs out next year (and my right nad sells on eBay), forget the closer-to-stock deal...I'm installing everything I can buy for the car.
Yup...neon lights under the sideskirts, those deer alert whistle thingies that mount on the front bumper, an low-rider airbag suspension, a polished chain steering wheel (another thing that I picked up from Cheech & Chong), fuzzy dice, 4 or 5 antennas, and leopard skin seat covers. Pimp-a-licious, baby!!!!
Lance325is 07-17-2003, 12:11 PM I'll be there, as well as my dad in the m5.

You're damn right it's not stock. If you were turning the times you're turning in a stock M3, I think I'd just give up ;). Though I don't think you've actually said what's been done to it...
I know where you live man. Don't be surprised if you come out and find your car riding on a set of worn-out Boge's one day...

I'm sure, he'd sell you his "stock" stuff real cheap once someone buy's his "junk" on eBay.
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 01:00 PM LOL... Glenn.. if the M3 were my car.. it would be all out modwar.. but Im not into modding the girlfriend's car and ELaine is moving :(
NoSoup4U 07-17-2003, 01:05 PM neon lights under the sideskirts
Damn ... that's a good idea .. I should move my neon lights to under the sideskirts rather than the body ... hmmm ... I'll have to take a look tonight.
Thanks!

The only non-factory suspension/handling parts I have on the car are:
Bilstein Sports
H&R Sport springs
Eibach sways (just put them on last Friday before the BMW event)
Sparco strut bar
No high-dollar, ride-height adjustable, custom-valved trick stuff here. Everything's off-the-shelf. I also have the X-brace, but that's a BMW part. I have a set of Powerflex poly RTABs, but haven't gotten around to installing them yet (right, vjlax18?).

I would say come on over Saturday, but the snickering about my "high-dollar, ride-height adjustable, custom-valved trick stuff" has me thinking about the offer...
NoSoup4U 07-17-2003, 01:24 PM DAMN YOU ... you bought that xbrace ... I was like 5 minutes to late ... :D ... I thought you had a xbrace?
I'm not sure if I do or not ... that's why I was going to get it and then check if I did ... hehe.

Lighten up, John...no snickering here at all. Nor was I pointing you (or anyone) out specifically. Ever think that maybe I just want the AD/GC set-up REALLY bad and I can't afford it right now?
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 01:52 PM Glenn.. what about the engine mods??? care to divulge ;) hehehehe

:stickoutt
I will beat all of you one day... I'm sand-bagging it until next season:devillook :biglaughb
Eric: No secrets here...only an AA intake and the fan delete mod. I've been eating Spam and burritos that cost 3/$0.99 all week so I can get a Shark Injector soon.
John: I read my previous post and can understand why you thought I was singling you out. I only mentioned your name because you said you'd help me install the RTABs...was not implying anything else.

psssssssshhhhhhhhht get DINAN... cause I do :)

I was joking;)
magnetic1 07-17-2003, 02:40 PM Not saying you had screts :) Just curious.
vjlax18 07-17-2003, 03:13 PM And Glenn you can co-drive my car at the next CCA AutoX if you want. You could feel the suspension and Dinan Stage 3 (Maybe Stage 4 by then;) ) Or, you could just loan me those wheels and superior tires of yours :stickoutt
That'd be awesome, John. I'll have to take you up on that offer. I'd like to see how the nice suspension feels, as well as the software upgrade. I doubt that I'll be going with Dinan stuff, though...way too pricey!
vjlax18 07-17-2003, 03:39 PM Price is the same as Conforti for just the S/W. And then you can buy the other "stuff" as you go and get the Dinan upgrade S/W which I don't think you have to pay for :)
magnetic1 07-20-2003, 04:23 PM Damn that GLenn!!!!!!! :P
Nice driving, but I'll get you next time... question is... what will I be driving next time :) I like to keep you guessing  Unless..... someone with a silver M3 w/ black wheels and R-compunds wants to have a tire warmer ;)
Glenn got me by 0.002!
Gee Eric, aren't we fickle!
Just because you didn't have what it takes to win SM2 in my car...:biglaughb
vjlax18 07-20-2003, 05:01 PM Silver is faster than red...
magnetic1 07-20-2003, 08:15 PM HAHAHA....
Neil, your car is setup AWESOME!!!! Need more seat time ;)
John V 07-21-2003, 07:19 AM I got there early enough to see you guys run. Pretty fun course if you ask me. It flowed a lot better than the BMW course last weekend.
I had a best of 56.2xx. Don't know where that put me in BS but it was more than a second off the win. Those S2000 guys can drive!
John
magnetic1 07-21-2003, 08:53 AM Yea... Vic Madrid is up there.. I believe he ran 54s...
The course was designed by Lee PIccone... he designs some of the best courses.. they are technical, yet flow very well. If you guys haven't registered for the Aug. 10th event, do so now.. I heard it is going to be an exact replica of the National Tour course on the big lot!!!!
John V 07-21-2003, 10:37 AM Yep.. a duplicate of the Saturday course. It should be fun.
I don't think Vic was even at the top until his last run IIRC. Greg O. was really kicking butt until the last runs. I know when I crossed the finish line with a 56.2, the announcer said I was third in BS, but I finished fourth, after David sneaked in ahead of me. *sigh*.
John
John,
You beat me by 0.1 seconds.
Next time, I'm launching!!! :D (don't tell Vic)
Han
John V 07-23-2003, 07:15 AM Haha. :) Pure luck on my part, but I'll take any victory over an S2000 that I can get.
John V
4WDrift 07-23-2003, 11:22 PM Well, that was different. Having new S-03s on the rear made for interesting handling, mowing over one of the 4 cone slalom rows 4th run. I actually liked the & course two weeks ago better. We'll see about Sun. :D
magnetic1 07-24-2003, 12:23 AM the course 2 weeks ago? I hated it for reasons apparent to all by now :(
vjlax18 07-24-2003, 08:17 AM I actually thought it was safer before they changed it. I would have thought that they could have just straightened out the finish, instead of putting another messed up turn in there.... but that's just me.
sunir 07-24-2003, 11:10 AM autox this Saturday. Do you have to have pre-registered already? I didn't sign up or anything...but I've got this weekend free possibly and may come out and run if they let me. I don't know what class they'll put my LTW in either but don't really care....just think it'll be kinda fun to do an autox since it's been a long while...the only thing is that the car is set up for track only with very aggressive racing pads and Hoosier GAC tires...I don't want to glaze over the rotors with cold braking a week before I head back out to Watkins Glen...anyway, we'll see....:)
John V 07-24-2003, 11:13 AM Hoosier GAC? Sounds like a disease.
Seriously though, if they're not DOT legal slicks, then say hello to the prepared class.
There was a guy at my old region (NE-Ohio) that had an F355 Ferrari. He went out and bought a set of high dollar Dunlop road racing slicks, then was confused when he got stuck in a prepared class. (giggle)
John
vjlax18 07-24-2003, 11:14 AM Would probably be in the SM class with me:wave:
I'll be driving a Mazda 6 this weekend:evil2
magnetic1 07-24-2003, 11:27 AM Ill be at Mazda on Sunday.
Sunir, those pads would probably be worthless at an autocross and the tires would probably never have a chance to heat up :(
sunir 07-24-2003, 12:02 PM Eric's right...the tires and brakes would not likely get enough heat in them to be effective at all...I remmember a lot of folks using Hawke HP+ pads at the autoxes but those will fade on a racetrack due to extreme heat build up...I guess car setup does play a big part in each instance come to think of it. If I come up I'll just hang out with you all...or if anyone wants to let me co-drive their car I could do that :D ;) ...regardless, wish you all good luck at the autox:)
magnetic1 07-24-2003, 12:04 PM Sunir.. just change pads and tires ;) simple enough :p
heheheheh
Sunir.. I think you should register for the 8/10 event... that is the national tour course and it will be HUGE... think of it as a mini Beaver Run
sunir 07-24-2003, 12:23 PM since it is a dedicated track car at this point, I have only Hoosier Grand-Am Cup slicks and track compound pads....otherwise I'd swap out and run for sure....
The 8/10 event is where? I'll be in PA on the 9th and will likely be getting back in town on the 10th a bit late for the autox...a mini beaverun eh....now that could be fun:D ....speaking of Beverun, I'm going back in late August to instruct for PCA over there.
Any of you guys interested in coming out to the VIR full-course 3 day with Car Guys on 8/15 - 8/17 (Fri-Sun)....I'll try to work out a good deal/group purchase or somethin' for the Bimmerforums folks....:)
