I thinking about buying a X6 does anyone have a strong oppinion ether way on the x6. I like a looks, it is pricey but not to bad.

just for the sake of discussion, what is it about the X6 that you find desirable?

the x6 is an 4 seat x5 that you can (to an extent) throw around. if you have a family, get an x5. if you wanna feel like you driving something out of the ordinary, get an x6 and gun it around corners

from what i have read, the X6 actually drives itself around turns. so IMO the X5 is more easily thrown about by the driver without the assistance of computer aided traction control.

I test drove one a few weeks back. It was hella fun. Actually felt a lot like driving my 650, except it really took advantage to the all-wheel drive. It felt much more like driving a car than an SUV. If you are looking for pure comfort though rather than driving experience, then get a range rover or escalade. Nothing against BMW, they just make a drivers car rather than a riders car which is what I definitely prefer, but not everyone.

after options the Xdrive50i is a lot more money.

i have driven my fathers xdrive35i, and is plenty fast for me. granted the xdrive35i does not accelerate like the e46 m3, for the car, the engine does fine.

now, the Xdrive50i laps the ring close to, or faster than the e46 m3...should put the performance into perspective.

really, drive them and decide, as 81k for an X6 xdrive50i is a lot of money...

bmw please drop the xdrive nomenclature!!!!!!!!

Hey! I'm Canadian for your information. The OK address is mostly a tax haven. I'm only about 5 minutes from the Texas border, about an hour from Dallas.

first things first, the x6 doesnt drive itself around turns, you still have to turn and accelerate, its not a robot

secondly, the x6 was designed to be thrown around. it has an 'active diff' which sends torque to the outside wheel (wheels?) to make it feel like youre being pulled around a corner. saying it 'drives itself around corners' is just plain stupid

third, an x5 is a big heavy 4wd good for a family of 5 or more...if he has 1 or 2 kids the x6 would probably be a good buy.

The X5 drives more like a large vehicle compared to the X6. The X6 feels a lot like a car to drive, but this is almost all suspension differences. The X6 definitely isn't ruled out for a family vehicle. The X6 isn't that much smaller than the X5 really. Sounds to me like you haven't driven or even ridden in either of them. Plus, have you ever had to take just one or two kids with you? You are either alone, with the wife, or you have 3 kids with you. They travel in packs. I go to pick my little sister up from school and 3 kids pile in.

but this quote basically proved what i was talking about, the x5 feels more than 66 pounds (???) heavier when compared to the x6.

the x6 is an x5 from the B pillar forward. its beyond the B pillar where the x6 is completely different from the x5. if he wants a family car, x5. if he wants a 'sporty' car that can take a few kids, x6. or 5 series.

and just so youre aware, im 18, have no kids, and i work at bmw, so ive ridden in, driven and worked on both cars

now, i dont wanna get in an argument here, im just trying to help this guy by telling him what the x6 doesnt do (drive itself around corners)
