Can anyone give me a quick rundown of the major problems with this vehicle? It's got around 70k on the clock, has some maintenance records. I'm just not familiar with the 4.6 engine at all and X5s general issues.. thanks fellas

I have a 4.4 and my buddy liked it so much he got a 4.6. He had some problems at first, a window regulator (common), a bad sunroof casette, and a nav screen with some gray blotches of failed pixels. All told at 30k miles, this was $4K worth of dealership repairs, but he got it covered by knowing someone down there. New tires were to the tune of $1500.
These are not really more of a problem than other X5s, but realize they are all loaded so there is more potential for stuff to break, and tires are more $$$ due to size.
You can do a search and you will find window regs, oil seals, tranny problems, rear air suspension problems and a few more...as it is with all V8 Xs. It also rides harder than other X5s. Just be prepared to have maintenance costs. Remember this thing cost more than an M5 when it was new.
On the plus side, the truck is a beauty (he has Estoril), and is shockingly fast...and has every convenience. I retroed an E46 M3 SMG wheel into it, and paddle shifting it is just super cool :cool

the numerous upgrades in the 4.6is/4.8is make the premium absolutely worth it in my opinion..... if you dont have the budget ofr one, or trying to be more fiscally responsible, i suggest a 3.0 over the 4.4... if youre going to get a 4.4, you really should just get the 4.6is. I just picked one up and it is hands down one of the best SUVs I have ever driven. Like all modern BMWs, 70k miles is just being broken in (engine-wise). As long as the other items in the car look well-cared-for, I would say jump on it!
