Yes, these pesky marders (martens) are enough of a problem in Europe that BMW in their infinite wisdom saw fit to add this system to the E31, along with many other models, but only the 850. I'm bummed. I can't believe that the $72,000 my 840 cost in 1995 didn't include this feature and that I'm driving around exposed to this global menace to wiring.

Now you old salts of the E31 community I'm sure have been aware of this as seen here (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=12171947), but we that are fairly new on the scene have been clueless..... They could've at least given us deer whistles! (http://cru.cahe.wsu.edu/CEPublications/eb1677/eb1677.html)....:D

well, you don't have spark plug wires, that is probably the biggest reason. Your igniton coil packs are directly over each spark plug.
The 850's have plug wires (alot of them!)
I can send you a bag full of these plastic rings, if that will make you feel better....

Although this was meant rather tongue-in-cheek, automotive electrical circuitry isn't my strong suit, so I don't understand why it would be confined to the ignition wiring system you have, or how it even works (oxymoron?) But send'em my way Steffen.. I'll string'em together and make my own Martian Repeller to thwart alien invasion that seems to happen to our cars sometimes.....

when i had this car smogged they called me and said they would have to cut a gap in some type of protective wire cover that they had never seen before because they could not get a ignition pickup for their computer.they promised it would not effect anything.now im left completely vulnerable to martens!:eyecrazy

I wish those suckers can be purchased by the bag full. Had a problem with rodents eating up the wiring on my Z06. Actually happened a week after Esmerelda caught fire.....

not on the 850, but they definately would have torched my Z06! (which by the way is Torch Red....)
