I was wondering if the rear "door" insert was removable in anyway. I wanted to change mine for another , but was not sure how to remove it. From looking at the ETK, it would appear that it is in fact two pieces which are separable, the question is how to do so without damaging anything!
It is the blue/white portion next to the rear seats in this image. Thanks to our nice member in the UK for this image:

As mentioned they are very heavily glued, the leather guy re glued and used the occasional staple to fix the new leather on

I'm not sure of his techniques but maybe a heat gun to warm the glue and then plenty of patience

Lots and lots of patience - and it's really, really strong glue. You will damage whatever's underneath and most likely warp the piece as you wrench on it trying to get it out.
No way I'd every try it again

Thanks guys! I am thinking of how to approach it. If I fail on the first piece, I will just have the actual pair in the car redyed.

Aura, are you going to refurbish any of the plastic pieces too? I'm curious if any have done this. My car was a daily driver so there are a lot of scratches on the driver's headrest pillar and wondering if it's fixable.

Honestly, most of the plastic stuff is rather cheap (most well under $100) new from BMW. I was going to either just buy it all new, or have it wrapped in CF akin to Rockytt's.
