Thank's guy's. I hope somebody from this forum wan't to by the car since you need to take care of a machine like this.
This car has never been run hard as the original motor protection "vax" is just slightly yellowed at first/last (front) cylinder heads.
Normally the vax cover is removed or the intake manifoldes refinished.

The largest hurdle to US importation is that the US switched to OBD2 for the 1996 model year while Europe waited longer. No S70 was ever equipped with OBD2 emissions or even the euro equivalent. So there is no US analog model to import as equivalent to. :(

A 12/95 build date may make it but anything later would be much more difficult if not impossible.

8er.org or clube31.de might be better places to list it.

Terry,
I didn't know about the breaking point of the 1996 ODB2 issue in US. Thanks. However, this forum is read by many here in Europe since it has a high level of mutual respect and no bullshit or larger commersial issues.

As an x industrial programmer for 15 years, i might take on the job to design an ODB2 compliant software. Naa, too big job i think.

was the obd2 issue not the reason the e31 was discontinued?

was the obd2 issue not the reason the e31 was discontinued? No, apart from the 850CSi the 8 series got an OBD2 update.

No matter how you look at it, the 8 series were a sales failure. With this in mind and despite being the ultimate BMW flagship, BMW gave the E31 platform very little updates after the introduction of the 850CSi and 840Ci in 1992 and an engine update in 1994. Even the 3 series had more fancy features on the options list by 1999... After 10 years of production with no signs of sale improvements, BMW decided to drop the 8 series. The car would have needed a huge update to make it up to the standards of the new millenium, but the efforts and costs were not justified by the sales.
