Hi All,

I'm new to bimmerforums, BMW's and forums for that matter.....

From what I've read so far though I'm hooked! I'm hoping one of you very well informed enthusiasts can help me with some questions.

My wife totalled her car recently and we're in the market for a new one. I've test-driven new Honda's, Toyota's and even a Hyundai (I will never admit that face to face)

Then the axe dropped, my insurance agent advised me that if we purchased a new car, I would probably have to sell a kidney.

I would like to keep my kidneys intact so I started looking for used vehicles and came across BMW X3's financed at 1.9%. (Thats a great rate in Canada!)

So here's the car I looked at..

CPO'd 2005 X3 3.0L
Premium package with sunroof
61000 kms
$30,500 Canadian(about $375 US..lol)
Had a minor accident on the drivers front end, the claim was for $949 but had an estimate for $3670. Vehicle was BMW maintained and I have a history of what mileage it got serviced but I don't know specifically what was done. It was serviced approximately every 10,000kms

So here are my questions.

1) What do you think? Decent price?
2) Are the 05's a good year?
3) Are these durable/safe cars (My wife's had 2 write-off's in the past 5 years, I love her but I time it so that we're not on the road at the same time .ROFL)?
4) Anyone know of better deals? (In Toronto)
5) What impact would the accident have on resale
6) Anyone willing to give up a kidney? .lol

Thank you in advance for any insight you can give me,

p.s. sorry for the long post (Not sure if it's frowned upon)

i just picked up an 06 X5 with 24k miles for $32k US (CPO also). same motor better riding vehicle. and the finance rates are seriously low on those also.

and the truck is larger than a X3, for that other problem.:)

1. 37USD is way too much for a CPO 05 X3.
2. Extremely safe vehicle (have totaled one. Rolled twice, walked away without a scratch)
3. Accident definitely should subtract from price
4. Pretty reliable. We have no major issues with ours, and it is abused. (05 3.0 with 98700 miles) Make sure the trans software is up to date as well as the air management system (electronic system that manages air to fuel ratio). You can tell if the air management system is out of wack when you accelerate hard in 2,3,4 and the engine feels as though it is sputtering slightly (like skips a beat) Easy fix, just a software update.
Also, watch out for the creaky window linings in the doors. The friction between the glass and the window lining creates a creaking that should be addressed/replaced by the dealer.
Other than that, its a solid car. Just make sure you do not get hosed by the dealer. Everyone is struggling to sell cars right now, so really work the dealer. We got ours brand new for 37,000 USD (but then again we paid invoice).

bmw has driver training. send your wife there first. then take away her cell phone.

yes, buy the x3 that way when you wife hits mine, she will lose against the bigger x5...
