There's one for sale for 11k down here in VA with 114,000 miles on it. Was thinking it might be a fun car...what does New England oT think?

btw... I stumbled across http://www.bttfdelorean.com/
Rice or not?

Heck yea it'd be fun to own. I have looked in to them several times over the past few years. I have found that there aren't many under $20K worth owning. This is the best place (http://www.delorean.com/index.asp) for information pertaining to parts and service. The engine used was made for Volvo in the late 70's - mid 80's. IIRC they are wicked heavy; engine around 325lbs, but car only 27-2800. Reliability was a craps shoot. 11K seems cheap, too cheap. Get a good inspection. If you do buy one, let us know, so we can come see it :)

Parts are available for those cars, but the most fun you'll have is the attention you get from EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE you go. It's not exactly a fun driving car in and of itself, but test drive it and see if you like it.

The body panels won't rust -- perfect for New England weather. I would be deterred only by the poor performance, expense of parts and maintenance, cost of repairing body work in the case of an accident, reliability, and the poor driving experience (from what I have read) except to the extent people staring at you qualifies as a good driving experience.

I like the gold plated one! It's the ultimate coke dealer ride!

I wouldn't plan of driving the car much if it is purchased. It's one of those things where you keep it in your garage telling everyone that the flux capacitor is being repaired and that you've yet to hit 88 in it.

"Oh my god, they found me. I don't know how but they found me. RUN FOR IT MARTY!!"
"WHO WHO??"
"Who do you think, the libyans!!"

Once an hour is like the longest time I've gone without changing my mind. It's terrible. I swear I have car ADD or something. I might as well just get a bicycle or something and just leave the car scene completly.

Well I test drove a 2004 330ci today and it was pure sex. It was an automatic, but I really liked the manual shift feature. It had something like 66,000 miles and they wanted 15k for it. Might look into it further.

you don't buy a delorean for performance value, you buy it for the women.

I've been researching it for a little while and they look like maintence nightmares. When I get older and have the time and money to invest one, I might seek one out, but for now I think I'm going to stick with bimmers. I've been pooting about in this little number for a few days now because the used car place that I went to wanted me to "test drive" it thinking i had every intention on buying it (wich I didn't. It was just for fun because a few of us on base were bored). Now, its kinda growing on me and it's not badly priced either.

i've never heard, "Holy shit you own a Delorean!"

it's usually, "so you own a Delorean...", said in the same tone as, "so you have a mullet..."

granted, it's usually unexpected, but that puts it in the same class as buttsex

hey...this is my first post on this site. I searched Delorean and I found this. I am very suprsied of all the misconception about the Delorean DMC-12. I have been rebuilding/refurbishing them for a few years now. And as any car they are as reliable as you make them, if the factory upgrades weren't done....what do you expect. Also, Deloreans DO rust, the stainless panels are mounted on a fiberglass underbody which is mounted to a wishbone Lotus chassis. The frame is just a mild steel coated with epoxy, the epoxy gets rust caverns under it and rots the frame.

As far as speed goes, the Twin turbo Deloreans were very fast for there day 0-60 5.5 secs, and the stock engine did it in under 10.

Also, whoever was buying that Delorean for 11k and had 114,000 miles....that's insane! I sold one last month that had 29k miles on it, had all of the reliability upgrades on it, basically was used as a daily driver after i finished rebuilding it and I sold it for 14,500.00. Now it didn't have the best interior but is what presentable, and the body was solid and it had no dents.

If you have anyother questions i'd be glad to answer them

I'm currently doing a custom Delorean and it's going to have 300-400 hp, if you guys want to see some pics let me know :]

Just say NO..

back when i was in highschool I found one for a friend and his dad bought it for him for $16k.. then put another $4k into it to get it to run.. BUTT
overheated all the time, he managed to get it to school maybe 2-3 times. Not worth the trouble IMO unless your a back to the future fan and want to the car to just sit and look pretty in the garage.

Or like DMC80 and knows lots about them.

nothing like laying down while u drive.. interesting experiance riding in one.
