Okay, I know real bass is omnidirectional. However, reading up on the Alpine demo car, I wanted to throw a 10" sub somewhere in the front to add depth to the soundstage...
Any idea where to install it? My local installer wanted to put it in the glove compartment with a sh!tload of dynamat, a tiny enclosure, and a bigass cutout firing downward, but it seems really invasive, and makes it a pain to get to the harnesses...
I was thinking about putting it in the passenger footwell, firing out of the center console... anyone know what sort of room there is back there?

There's not enough room in the center console unless you're willing to do away with HVAC stuff, radio, OBC, etc. Then, maybe an 8". Front bass would be awesome. What I considered doing was to enclose the map pockets in the bottom of the door panels and install 6.5 or 7" midbass speakers. That's fairly doable. Jay

What about multiple smaller speakers for the front bass? That would give all the front soundstage bass you could perceive, and would take up less space than a single 10", maybe 2 6"-ish woofers (since sub- you wouldn't need in the front)...
Anything more and you might as well rear-mount it, because as you said, it's all omnidirectional.

Hrm...
Maybe firing up from the passenger firewell? That would require some *serious* cutting though...
There has to be a happy medium somewhere...

Well, I think I'm going either with the 6.5" Diamond Audio HEX components, or the 7" Dynaudios in custom kickpanels... Either way, it should provide pretty fair bass up front... But I run big ol' Klipsch KG 5.5's with 2 10" drivers each... plus a 12" powered sub... I'm used to my big, tight, clean, efficient bass...
Now how to port that into a car... :shifty:
